The DMG says that a sandstorm gives disadvantage on Perception checks here. But what kind of damage does a sandstorm do, as sandstorms have been known to strip skin, flesh, and bone? What kind of damage would you say it does?
In tashas we have flaywinds, these deadly sandstorms are incredibly powerful killing commoners in 12 or so seconds.Even Tanky characters take some serious punishment from them..
It's obviously slashing. If you're hit by tiny grains of sand at high velocity which move across your face, the sand will start cutting you, not bludgeoning you to death with tiny hits, and it's not piercing into your skin as sand doesn't have the proper shape to pierce.
Wind is what deals bludgeoning damage, not the sand in spells like dust devil and whirlwind.

Dust Devil does bludgeoning damage, as does Whirlwind.

I'd say slashing, as it's grains of sand moving at high velocity that are making long, shallow cuts along your skin.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
But the previous poster is right - flaywinds are sandstorms that deal damage, and the damage type is slashing.
Thanks!

And neither of these are even remotely related to sandstorms or deal damage for the same reason.
