Hey so me and my best friend are playing dnd for quite a while. We once where in a larger group that split up so my friend bought The dungeon of the mad mage and we started playing. At first everything seemed fine but after four games the problems started. From this point on he was ( I guess) bored of the story he bought and every time we played he announced new campaigns. We played once then the next time a new campaign and a new character for me. Even the few times we play the dungeon of the mad mage I am pretty sure we are actually playing another one shot. At first I didn't know but I don't think that you get to exit the dungeon and travel to a thives guilt island and then being teleported to Theros ( I think )... My problem is that I am tired of making new characters that I don't even get to level up more than once and then abandon them... Also most of the times he indirectly tells me to change some spells or a proficiency, subclass because he doesn't like it. At first I refused but I noticed that when I did he wasn't paying attention to what I did and focused on his NPC's so I started making the characters he liked. He has some nice ideas I don't really mind to make something that we both enjoy since we don't have other players but I just want for once to make a character completely mine and finish a damn campaign instead of making new ones and then abandon them. Any ideas....?
Thnks everyone for your advice I have made up my mind and finally know what to do !!!!
Sounds like a pretty sever case of ADD might be at play here as well. 2 person setups are tough at the best of times and when the driver (DM) has some difficulty sticking to a path and starts veering all over the place, fun falls off pretty quickly. It sounds like a long talk is required, where you express that you want to take a character and DO something with it. If he insists on a new face every 2 sessions, suggest YOUR character is the focal point, roaming the lands in pursuit of his goal, and the weekly guest stars he wants are folks on an aligned path, for a short period.
Finding something you both like will be important to any ongoing fun you might have. If he's so flighty as to lose track/interest in a pre-written campaign, suggest he create some grand, overblown tale and start generating brief one shots as steps along the way. My wife has ADD and that's why I suggested it as a possible underlying issue. She loses interest in stuff quickly, which sounds a lot like your friend.

Talk to your Players.Talk to your DM. If more people used this advice, there would be 24.74% fewer threads on Tactics, Rules and DM discussions.
So it’s just the two of you? Your friend as DM and you the player? If so, maybe he doesn’t want to DM. A two person table can be difficult if neither of you wants to be DM. It does take a lot and he might not be ready to take on that role.
You were once part of a larger group, maybe you two can find another group?
Or talk to him and, as others have said, try to stick with one campaign for a little longer. Or see if he is interested in making his very own campaign and home brew. The two of you can work together on a setting, if that’s something you are interested in, and he can come up with adventures. And see if it’s ok for you to keep your character and let you do what you want. And he can do what he wants with the NPC’s.
Other alternative is switch off DMing or take over yourself, if your friend would rather be a player.
If neither of you want to DM then finding another group might be the only answer.

Thnks for the tip this could actually work pretty good. I will definitely propose that to him.
As a current ongoing DM , I would never tell my players this. - Sounds like a control freak. It's your character.
