I'm looking at either picking up the source book bundle, or the player bundle. The only thing I need in the player bundle is SCAG, which would be 13.50.
The sourcebook bundle is 148.25.
My question is, would I save more money getting the player bundle first, or would it be a wash/similar price? I'm not sure how the bundles alter prices beyond the 10/15%% discounts on the main bundles.
If you want to save the most money and do not mind waiting, I would wait until Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday and buy the Sourcebook Bundle then. If your ultimate goal is to buy everything though, then just get the Legendary Bundle on Thanksgiving; there is no point in getting the Sourcebook Bundle first and then the Legendary Bundle.
If you want to save money but you also want the preorder perks, buy the preorders now while the sale is still going on, and then buy the rest of the bundle during Thanksgiving.
How pricing works on bundles is that unless there is a sale on bundles going on, you are going to pay $DDD.CC for whatever bundle ($334.67 right now for the Sourcebook Bundle) eventually no matter what. What ever you paid towards the bundle before hand is what gets discounted. If you did not use a discount and paid $100 for 5 books, the bundle will be discounted by $100 when you finally purchase it. However, if you used a discount and purchased those 5 books for only $50, then the bundle will only be discounted by $50 when you purchase the bundle. This means that there is no point in using discounts or sales beforehand if you plan to purchase a bundle, unless you are extremely tight on budget beforehand but still want to dip your toes into D&D before you make the full commitment.
