I'd say that there is only 1 path to Fey Ancestry, but many paths to Powerful Build or to a particular resistance, so it isn't a apples to apples comparison & more races should have those traits than have Fey Ancestry. Also, Goliaths have Powerful Build, at least on DDB.
Though I admit it's probably the sudden addition of the trait to multiple races, rather than the absolute number, that got me going down the "Everyone & thier brother having Fey Ancestry" path. Especially since in 5E at least, they didn't have even a FA-adjacent trait, or a reference to being fey, from fey, or know a guy who visited there once on spring break. Just MMM comes out and BOOM, they are now Feyish, because reasons.

There's only one path to both of those features. "You're descended from fey, but aren't a fey" is how you get Fey Ancestry, and "you're bigger than the usual person, but not Large" is how you get Powerful Build, or a trait like it. Only one way to get each feature.
(The updated version of the Goliath in this book that we're all discussing replaces the name of "Powerful Build" with "Little Giant", according to the leaks. That's what I was referencing.)

Again, this did not come out of nowhere. Goblins, Bugbears, and Hobgoblins were all fey in the folklore, 4e had Goblin cities in the Feywild, Nilbogs are very similar to fey in theme, Goblinoids had a previous pantheon that was massacred by Maglubiyet when he conquered the Goblinoids which could be easily be stated to be Archfey of the Unseelie Court, Maglubiyet has a pattern of trying to "domesticate" chaotic creatures (right after he dominated the Goblinoids he started doing the same thing to the Orcs, because they're chaotic evil and war-like), and so on.
All of those, and more, point to goblinoids being at least related to fey. Them having Fey Ancestry makes sense. It didn't come out of nowhere. It's not as if they're going to turn half of the races in the game into Fey, or give them Fey Ancestry, it's entirely due to the fact that this change fits with Goblinoids and WotC wanted to give them more of a thematic niche and racial story to call their own (it also helps further distinguish them from Orcs).
You don't have to like or use the change, but the change is also makes sense in the context of the creatures in the hobby and their folklore roots, and gives a better foundation for the race for if/when Wizards of the Coast wants to dive more into their story in future products (adventures, lore books, setting books, or a DMs Guild product about goblinoids).

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
I'm curious to see how many bugbear builds there will be utilizing the new sneak attack. Monks, warlocks, gloomstalkers and rogues will have a blast.
I don't think many people are clamoring to play bugbears generally. They're sort of unpleasant creatures. I'll be vaguely interested whether there's some kind of lore update for them or what.
i agree, then give them an high initiative and can attack multiple opponents with the 2d6 or just focus on one. You get a 2d6 bonus damage when you attack a creature that has not taken their first turn.
I am going to say it is amusing to see people complaining about something that is at best 3rd hand information, a person told a person who then made a video about what is supposedly in the new book.
We have no idea how accurate this is, but, historically leaks such as this generally prove to have the details wrong.
I would say lets wait until the actual book is released in its entirety before people start getting upset about details of changes to individual race abilities.

The actual book has been released in its entirety for three days.

He had pictures of said book which he showed to the camera and read out to the "audience", and then gave his opinions. It's not like Chinese whispers where he said she said. Either they went to an awful lot of effort to make fake rumours,, or it was legit. It turns out that it was completely legitimate. It was released on Tuesday, I've had my copy for nearly a week (I got mine last week), and while I haven't gone over the video again, every single detail he mentioned that I remember was 100% accurate, 100% fair to context and nothing wrong. I'm guessing you didn't watch the video, but I put credence in this leak because it was credible with it's sources and evidence. I'm not sure what your point is?

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
It could still be an early edition though. They still have months for production and we don't know how old that copy is.
It was released two days ago...

Ok my mistake there, out of interest guessing you bought it as the full set with Tasha’s and Xanathars, are they any different to the original editions. Trying to worK out if it is worth buying both books again to get MMM, or just wait until may?
Oh I was looking at the dnd beyond date which is like may
To clarify, the special set with two other books included was released already; if you want to buy the book on its own (whether here on DDB or a physical copy) you have to wait until May. Either way though, it's out. Nothing's going to change anymore.

Different covers and presumably errata (if any) incorporated. I would have bought the set if the covers had been the previous alternate ones or something equally nice, but I'm not a fan of these new ones so combined with the inflated price I decided against it.

My understanding is that it's just updated with all the errata previously updated. I don't have an old copy to compare, but if you have a specific point you'd like to compare, I can check. However, I'm pretty sure it's just errata, which is great for me. If you already own it? Only if it's worth it to have errata incorporated into the book rather than stickies (or whatever your system is, if you have one) is worth the extra, I guess. Personally, I'd just wait until May, and would have had I owned the other books or not really liked the idea of the second collection set. MMM itself is really good, it's just not worth that much just to get it 4 months earlier.

i believe volos requires surprise. MMM requires bugbear to attack before they do.
well with up to a 20ft reach advantage and the 2d6 sneak attack. they can be interesting lol
