He's an evoker, he can get around AE damage for the party a few times.
That's not exactly how Sculpt Spells works.
"When you cast an evocation spell that affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save."
It kind of looks that way to me?
Half damage (for characters who don't have Evasion) is still damage, and "a few times" implies there's a limit on how often it can be used rather than on the number of targets it can be applied to. Same ballpark, but not exactly how it works.
Umm ... The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.
But yes, you're right. "A few times" was not correct since evokers can do this every time they cast an evocation area spell.

It's exactly how it works. Since you can choose targets where saving for half means they now take zero, and most spells let you save for half. Save or suck spells now are basically pockets of immunity for your party.
Evasion lets you FAIL and take half, and then succeed and take nothing. This rule is not talking about evasion.
Yup, that's my mistake. Not how it was explained to me the first time around and not really great wording, but I should have been more critical. Thanks for the clarification.

Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!

Yes I forgot about them being an evoker so AoE won’t matter, but the rest of what I said still applies.
