Now this is based on speculation and lack of information on my part. Everone who plays D&D have or will at some point use a bag of holding. A uncommon item but not rare, so they must in some way be able to be created ( I have not found any info on how they are made). So if the possibility is there to create them a player could construct a giant bag of holding ( I have not really thought of methods to transport such a bag, but I'm sure there are a few) but why create a bag to big to move about freely? Well one thought of mine was using it as a trap for large creatures, as far as I know the bag cannot be open or destroyed from the inside. Plus any living being inside would take suffocation damage until death, and destroying the bag would send ALL of its contents to the astral plane. Possibilities of killing dragons without taking a single hit. It would also depend on weight and capacity your bag is made to hold ( Normal bag weighs 15 pounds, holds 500 pounds, and capacity of 64 cubic feet) All speculation of course but a game breaking exploit non the less. Any way I was just wondering if this was at all possible.
It's magic. Anything is possible. But, "anything" is also under the control of the DM. If one of my players tried such a thing as opening a bag of holding wide enough to trap anything bigger than tiny, I would give them an Arcana check - if they rolled high I would indicate that they have remembered some key point regarding the nature of demi-planes and warn them of the extreme dangers of this course of action. If they roll low I'd let them do it, then have it tear a hole in reality, destroy the bag, and release some horrid abomination into the world.
So yeah, it's not so much an exploit as meddling with powers well beyond the average character's control.
1. Acquire at least two Bag of Holdings. More is better.
2. Face a large or bigger Dragon.
3. Use your party and other spells to burn through the dragon's legendary resistances. Consider Bestow Curse and similar spells for imposing disadvantages.
4. Cast Polymorph as many times as necessary to turn said dragon into a slow-moving tortoise.
5. Pick up tortoise (dragon) and pop into the Bag of Holding.
6. Pierce the Bag of Holding destroying it and sending all contents (a.k.a. the tortoise) into the Astral Plane.
7. While the tortoise is in the Astral Plane and before it can return to being a dragon or return to Material Plane, raid the dragon's , er tortoise's, lair for everything it has. Use the Bags of Holding you haven't destroyed or other items/spells for convenient travel of your loot.
8. Profit. Immensely.

Might work, if you're not too concerned about consequences. You better bet that dragon is coming back angry. First stop, she burns down the town where you stayed the night after your raid, reclaims the handful of her gems you sold in that town. Proclaims to the survivors who exactly it was that was responsible for this. Repeats this a few more times until suddenly no one wants to touch your hoard of treasure. You're chased out of every town by scared business owners. Now the dragon isn't just hanging around on a pile of money in a cave somewhere, she's hunting you. She'll attack whenever you're weak: clinging precariously to the side of a narrow mountain path, as you stumble exhausted from the lich's tomb drained of all energies, whenever you dare to fall asleep. Your own personal flying, fire-breathing nemesis...
Or use the time they are gone to lay down a megaton of traps.

Agreed, I think too often DMs roleplay a dragon as Puff the Magic Dragon more than Smaug.
