Re: notes, I'm a compulsive note-taker and I have a frighteningly good memory for story detail. My DMs often come to me to check their lore facts, lol. That said...my notes when I DM are atrocious. I don't keep track of things I make up on the fly, and some details I give in the moment because my players care about it, but I don't. I've been blessed and cursed with players who are obsessive note-takers and they have record of every tiny thing I've ever put into the universe - which is great, because they remember, and awful, because they remember.
Re: archetypes, I don't know of any in particular, but I've always wanted to play an old married couple in-game. I think the RP could be hilarious with the right partner player and group.

I've got a sneaky suspicion that if there was ever a DDBcon set up & a "Forum Loudmouth Club only" game established, it would pretty much be this.
I was reminded by a peek at my next book of work that I have a whole system for tracking the renown of all the characters across the different realms, and that is probably the biggest thing I did for major persistent note taking.
I don’t have them do it because there are a lot of factors to track — it is a complicated world, lol. But it helps inform all manner of things and I play it straight. It becomes more like reputations in a lot of ways, so in a big city they may be mud under someone’s heel while in a different town they may have the keys to town sanctuary.

Question for the day: What is the character archetype you want to try, but just have not yet?
For me, one of these days I want to get around to playing a real dumb character. Not simply someone who is kind of an idiot but has enough charisma or wisdom to compensate, but your classic “muscles instead of brains, functionally illiterate” type. Waiting for a one-shot to do that though—I find the strength-based classes generally dull and wouldn’t want to commit for a protracted campaign.
Edit: Looks like someone else had the same “can’t let this fall to page three” idea I did!
I get lost in the woods here -- Class and archetype are not synonymous to me.
I want an official witch -- highway, hedge, or hearth. and not a wiccan or new age witch.
They kinda sorta had one in 1e - they were badass.

Fun Question - If your friends/family/whoever, put down YOUR stats - how would they rate you for: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma? Bonus Points - What Class would they say you probably are?
Man, this question kinda sucks. I want to answer with my high school or college self rather than my present self. I'll totally take the hit on WIS for the increase in everything else =) I was absolutely stronger, faster, tougher, and prettier back in the day than I am now. Now I'm just a sneaky old shit.
My friends would call me a Paladin Rogue. My kids would say I have no class (HA!).
OH! Sidenote - Villains and Vigilantes used this system to give you stats. The GM would try to work out what your game stats would be rather than rolling dice.
Question for the day: are you a note-taker as a player? How do you prefer to keep your notes: paper or plastic in a Word doc or the like? And for the DMs, how do you keep your session notes -- in a carefully organized notebook, on your tablet or laptop, or (like me) in a bewildering, chaotic mix of the two?
I never took notes until I watched a couple of Critical Role episodes and realized that notes were expected in their group. So I sometimes try to take notes... But I kinda just like improving and seeing how things go lol.
Fun Question - If your friends/family/whoever, put down YOUR stats - how would they rate you for: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma? Bonus Points - What Class would they say you probably are?
this one isn't even hard for me, and we have often played as "us, but there".
Str: 8, Dex: 11, Con: 9, Int: 15 Wis: 16 Cha: 14 and to a one they would say I am a Cleric first, Paladin second, and if they can get me to multiclass, that's it. Those are the most recent stats, post heart attack. In 1985, my Str was rated at 15, Con at 14. Collective values that required total agreement on all points among all the players (9 in 85, 24 today), and we update roughly every odd year.
I have enough of an ego that I would thoroughly disagree with all of them, because dang nabbit, I am Empress of the Known Universes, and my ego is so large it has invaded twenty additional universes. Do they think that's air they are breathing? No! It is my ego!
But, yeah, I got old, and I have played more clerics as ass kicking careabouts than anything else. Second would be ranger.

For myself - present day...
Strength: 10 Dexterity: 9 Constitution: 12 (not so much for running, but everything else!) Intelligence: 6 Wisdom: 6 Charisma: 10
I'd only rank High in Intelligence if someone asked me anything pre 2000's Marvel Comics, any D&D, and 80's Metal.
Everything else - my brain has no room for it.
Class Wise: Ranger (because I'd rather save an animal than a human 99% of the time), or a Paladin (because I have a bleeding heart, and want to be a Knight in Shining Armor to everyone I know who is in distress around me, my wife says)

I didn't go straight out and ask anyone this and collected this information from things I remember people saying about me. Look at my charisma score and you will know why.
Strength- 12
Dexterity- 13
Constitution- 15 (I do cross country and soccer)
Intelligence- 15 (I have disadvantage on anything technology related)
Wisdom- 14
Charisma- 8
As for class, I would probably be either a druid, because I love studying and being in nature, or a wizard because I always have a book on me and love to read and write. Whats weird is that all my Dnd characters have the highest charisma that I can give them.

I have become a note taker. I got tired of being the guy who's constantly asking everyone else "Who's that guy again?", so I throw down some notes now. Just a mess of a notebook.

I always tend towards brawny warrior types for some reason, and guys who tend towards street smarts and Wisdom. I'd like to flip the script and be the intellectual type who is verging on annoying. You know, the guy who pops in with a "Well, actually..." quite frequently. Probably more of a caster or a support type character with a big brain but absolutely no understanding of how people work or how to read situations.

I kind of want to play a nonspellcasting class with less charisma than normal. The problem is that I play with a lot of murderhobos, people who only play monks or rogues, and new players who have no idea how to play. And non of them are willing to put anything into charisma. So if I ever want to talk our way out of a fight, I am going to need to invest heavily in charisma because the rest of the party will be working against me in every way. I also play spellcasters all the time, and usually ones with healing abilities, because otherwise we would have no spell casters.

Hey - sometimes that's what we look for in D&D. To be the person we are not in real life. So it's not too strange that you might dump all your points in Charisma, if you really feel your real life Charisma is low. I think that's why I play fighters so often - there's so much wrong that I see - that I want to punch people for. Being a fighter allows me to do so fictionally.

What monsters are you fond of using in your game? In my previous campaign, fiends featured pretty heavily as my BBEG was an archdevil using a robber baron as a puppet, and I particularly liked using Merregon as a staple alongside various humanoids I reworked as gunslingers. In my current game, I've homebrewed a number of changes to the elemental cultists in Princes of the Apocalypse and been using those consistently.
I love using Nothics, Dragons, Hags, and Goblins. I also REALLY want to run a False Hydra, though it’s not in any official books. I also kinda want to have my players encounter the Illithid Dragon and Mimic that turns into part of creatures treasure hoard (both of these monsters are from Fizbans.)

Mimics. I have what some might call an excessive amount of mimic miniatures, covering a whole range of items from furniture to doors to food and potions to, of course, your classic chest. All comes with a corresponding innocent mini—and the innocent mini is, more often than not, used not as a mimic, just to lull folks into a false sense of security.
My favourite recent mimic usage: The party entered a dead end room where the sole item within was an open chest filled with gold. Suspicious—perhaps fairly—they spent ten minutes using detect magic, investigation, and perception on the room, finding nothing with what they checked. The fighter put a few arrows into the chest with nothing happening, at which point the party declared the entire thing must have been an elaborate DM troll. The rogue declares “I go pick up the gold.” “The gold bites you. Roll for initiative.”
