There is Kusa Xungoon a kobold noble who is teaching her son, Gammon, how to run their family business inside the Dyn Singh Night Market from 'Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel'.
If anyone wants an idea of how Kusa sounds in action look no further than the writer herself, DM Surena Marie, running the adventure, 'Salted Legacy' on YouTube.
I’m currently playing a kobold. He’s a beast barbarian nature cleric shepherd Druid. Who has a tendency to capture every animal he sees and take it as a pet. His backstory is he wondered away from his home in search of his father (a Dragonborn pc in the same game who has turned into basically venom) and was captured by trappers. They taught him how to catch animals and because his intellect and wisdom are 6 he didn’t realize what they were doing was illegal. One day he saw a giant whale in the sky and decided “what the heck let’s go out the whale in a cage. So he just walked away with off and eventually stumbled upon a halfling lycanthrope tribe and that’s were he met the party. So far I’ve only encountered spiders but I hope to capture more animals

"Come with me, and you'll be. in a world of pure imagination. Take a look, and you'll see, into your imagination. we'll begin, with a spin. traveling in a world of my creation. what we'll see will defy explanation!" ~Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
their is no light without dark. no calm without storm. no heroes without villains. I, unfortunately am the dark. I am the storm. I. Am. The. Villain (not really considering I'm a forever player and never get the chance to DM)
Oe of my few characters that I actually played started out as a pretty normal half elf cleric, died, and got reincarnated as a Kobold (this was 1e era).
Later, said Kobold, whose name I sadly no longer remember, ended up becoming 8 feet tall. He was a big boy.
still later around 9th level, as a fighter after multiclassing with Cleric (in those days you had to stop, and being brought back as a Kobold made him switch to Fighter because he couldn't hack being a cleric anymore after "a betrayal like that!") decided he wanted to be a Paladin because I think it was Thor, might have been Freya, saved the whole party and he swore an oath to them.
So now this 8 foot tall kobold was a 1st level Paladin, 9th level Fighter, 4th level Cleric, and about that time 2e came out. He ended the game at 7th level as a Paladin when they couldn't get him to a place to bring him back after a nasty pitfall (it was one of my most disliked of grimtooth's traps ever after, lol).
I loved that character.
I like Kobolds, but I always do things with them that are strange -- most often use some barsoomian background stuff. Was not pleased when they became dragon related (look up a 1e kobold image, lol), but I got over it.
Only other characters i like as much were a lizard man (the immediate after) and an NPC half-Ogre that mostly comic relief.

About that thing with dragon related kobolds, what if you made a sort of sub race to kobolds that are less draconic and like the weird kobold cousins?

Oh, I got over my snark about it for the most part by the time I got to 5e, lol.
But, I mean, totally doable. And ain't nothing wrong with them now anyway.
I have always had kobolds in my games. They really are my favorite peoples. The upcoming campaign, they were made to be one of the bad guy peoples and they decided "nah, screw that" and did their own thing which made the Powers that created them a bit angry. Then they made peace with the folks they were supposed to be enemies of, and now they have a thriving maritime trade set up, lol.

A black Kobold vampire that dates a werewolf Cleric.
Nope. Unless the werewolf is a lizardman as well. Then it might be a little strange.
