I wonder if I should let people RP as kobolds, I think that would be funny.
As a DM, I have allowed it in the past; did it years before any rules were established for RPing them.
As a player, I'm currently running two different kobolds, at two different tables, in two different games. Lots of fun playing with their strengths, like agility and cunning, and working around their low (physical) strength. Personally, I can't envision a 2.5 foot tall, 35lb individual possessing even a 10 strength, so I keep that score low and save the high rolls for other slots. On another 'realism' note, a 35lb person with an 8 strength can dead lift almost 7 times their body weight, so they would be pretty well built, for their size.
On another note, I recently published a sci-fi novel, where someone with the technology and capability grew their own version of kobolds, for sale to others. Only one piece of the plot line, but a substantial piece. Won't mention the title here, for commercial reasons. Message me if curious.

oh, I meant on this thread, but now we have a tavern so the poll and the post don't matter.

Here's a fun PC, or NPC, closest I could put together on the cheap plan: Taken from Forgotten Realms lore, a fair rendition of a Dragon Rock Kobold, leaning toward its Green Dragon heritage.
Effectively an Urd, but more closely aligned with its draconic heritage. For PC purposes, a kobold with flight speed 30, a life span of 200-400 years, and immunities to both sleep and paralyzing magic. Can be either held in high esteem by others in their tribe, or their tribe can be envious and unfriendly because of their additional draconic "gifts". Because of these added benefits, the DM should carefully consider how to balance this one with the other members of the party, before agreeing to allow it.
I remember this thing where multiple people were working together to set up tieflings who represented different arch devils of each layer of the nine hells. What if we did something similar for kobolds, but with dragon colors?

That could be cool. I would want to stay away from just giving them resistances to the same damage as the dragon colors and an attack that does that damage since that would just make them tiny dragonborn. I am not sure if this would work, or if it would be relevant, but I think it would be cool if some race had a burrowing speed. I could see kobolds having that, maybe blue dragon related kobolds. It wouldn't have to be a super high speed, and they would only be able to use it in soil and dirt. Maybe five feet?

The black kobold would be different with them being a vampire.

Why would a black kobold be a vampire?
I just think it’s cool representation of black. Plus, the person who chooses to role-play the specific character decides how the color is represented. You chose blue and that’s how you represent your colors abilities. I chose black and I choose to represent it through vampirism.

I see. I think there is a vampiric kobold statblock in Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. Now that you said that, I think it would be cool if black dragons were connected to vampires in some way. Vampire dragons, I am surprised they aren't official yet.

I actually agree. I’m going to make a vampiric dragon stat block later on.

What if different kobold colors could make a sort of potion that has the same damage type as their dragon's breath attack, so that they're not like tiny dragonborn but still have an attack like that.

So I ran Sunless Citadel and the party full on adopted poor lil Meepo, and he joined them in clearing out the depths of that dungeon and left with them when they left, being ostracized from his clan.
In the next campaign my brother took over as GM and when my Celestial Warlock met an inglorious end in a pit trap and I needed a replacement character concept in a hurry and I remembered that little Reptile was out there making his way adventuring.
Meepo (the Magnificent) Wyrmheart is now level 11, 3 in rogue and 8 as a trickster Cleric to a mysterious being known only as the Traveler and has consumed the heart of an adult white dragon :) We're almost at the end of the Adventure (DoIP extended materials) and I'm going to be so sad to put this character sheet down....
