That is until they wall off the thing completely.
If people were actually leaving to go to other systems, what happens here would not matter.
Then they aren't leaving are they? They have chosen to stay and provide feedback in hopes of continuing to support the system.
Those are not mutually exclusive nor are they dependent on each other. You can abandon and cut off someone/something, and provide feedback in hopes they change.
If there isn't change, then that is when the decision happens. Some can immediately go from one to the other, but a majority of people take steps before making the final step.
People have short memories, this has happened before, but I do not think the lesson is being understood by he right parties or the consequences thereof.

If a person says "I am leaving" and then just hang around, then they lied. You can't leave AND stay at the same time.
You could certainly say, if things don't change then I am leaving. That is legit.
But simply saying "I am leaving and there is nothing WotC can do to win me back", and then continuing to stay to fight is either trolling or making an empty threat.

I am saying ”I am leaving” in private circles. I am doing that as my current 5e campaigns wrap up and I am doing it in conjunction with ending my subscription and no longer buying 5e content.
WotC could easily change my mind (which is to currently push hard to move to a different system after these campaigns) by backing off on the OGL 1.0a deauthorization. If they want to put 6e on 1.2 that’s fine but don’t break a 20 year old community system that supports past editions of Dnd that wotc will not support.
so yeah. I’m leaving. However that takes time and I have enough invested in this system to want to hang around and see if I can’t help convince wotc that this ogl 1.2 business is a bad idea

I have been playing dungeons and dragons since 1990. I am one of the twelve people who bought D20 Modern. I own two WOTC edition of Star Wars. I could go on, but all I am saying is, WOTC and I have a long history. I don’t want to go, I don’t want this to end. But I am afraid we want different things and we have grown apart.
I have cut off the money flow for now as my way of saying things are bad. I haven’t run away because 1. I think Pathfinder 2e is terrible for me, and 2. I want D and D to be better.
I want Wizards to know I am dissatisfied with things. Also, if they leave me I want to know how hot their new paramour is because I am petty. Look, this was a tongue in cheek way of saying, it is hard to walk away, and people have real feelings for their hobbies. Let them vent. Ignore if you have to, but don’t tell them they can’t vent, and for the love of Pelor, please don’t scare people off if they are still testing the waters of coming back.
For my part, I've unsubscribed, but I'm giving Hasbro/Wizards (which I, as I wrote this, realized can be amusingly shortened to "Hazards") a grace period in which even I acknowledge they might possibly turn it around and convince me not to entirely depart. During this time, I will express my frustrations, disappointments, and concerns, contributing to the ability (whether they use it or not) of the decision-makers to take such things into account moving forward. In other words, I'm contributing to Hazards being able to make a more informed decision about me and others like me.

I also don’t blame the people saying they’re done. WotC effectively declared war on a wide swath of other TTRPGs with ogl 1.1 and has yet to fix the problem (revoking OGL 1.0a) that they started. That’s a legitimately insane amount of trust that they lost with that move.

I get that, I really do. But there comes a time (this of course is not directed at you or any specific person) where if you really want to fix things, then you have to use your words like a grown up and stop throwing your toys.
The people that believe that the situation can't be fixed have the right to feel that way, but there comes point where they are not helping either side and are just mudding the issues for those that really want to work things out. IF you are leaving regardless of the out come, it is best to just go so everyone else can pick up the mess and start trying to repair the damage.

To say that everyone should calm down and be rational is like saying that people should only leave good 3-5 star reviews for a restaurant and if they had a terrible experience they should just quietly not go back.
Of course super angry people aren't helping. That's the point. The company has made them sufficiently angry that they're now actively trying to gum things up just cause they can. The worst outcome of a bad decision isn't "a bunch of people leave" it's "everyone salts the earth and makes everyone else leave as well". The risk of that happening is what's supposed to keep Wizards from being too dumb and greedy. Pissing people off a little is fine, but too much and it's a problem and well... *this* happens.
So why am I angry? One of the reasons is that there probably wont be, for exapmle, a Tomb of Beasts 4 for D&D and that's something I would have liked. Now.... - can Wizards fix that? No, not at this point. There is probably nothing they can put in that document that will get Kobold Press back. Which means I am going to be unhappy with *anything* that Wizards suggests at this point. People are saying "they've walked it all back - why are you still unhappy" - and even if that were actually true about OGL1.2 - just dropping back to a OGL1.0a equivalent at this point doesn't walk everything back - they've broken it and I'm mad about that. If they want to roll things back enough to make me happy they have to start trying to woo people back.
So why stick around? Cause I'm playing a campaign. Because I like the game. Because my books are here. I can continue to use the free tools while deciding to no longer give Wizards any money unless and until I've decided that they've earned it again.
Then they aren't leaving are they? They have chosen to stay and provide feedback in hopes of continuing to support the system.

People are posting on the forums. No one is burning their headquarters. I'd imagine they'd have to try to release a pretty bad version of the OGL before someone would resort to arson and others would look at that and say "you know what - they had that coming."
And if they didn't want this outrage they could have given us codes to get the digital version when we buy a physical copy. They could have made an API to integrate with Foundry and Roll20. They could have kept working on shared inventories and making homebrew less terrible. They could have released some better books recently. This didn't happen in a vacuum. It's just the most egregious thing that threw everyone over the edge. If Wizards seemed genuinely worried about giving us the best gaming experience possible and not just milking us for money - we would be giving them a lot more leeway to futz with the OGL.
If they made a halfway decent VTT everyone would *love* to come here. Roll20 is a terrible company. Setting up Foundry is a hobby all by itself. Neither have a character building experience anywhere near what's available here. They don't have to force us to give them money - we're the sort who will happily pay for all sorts of extra books and supplements and subscriptions for things we don't really need just cause we might think it's cool to use one bit here or there in a game. But the flip side of that is that this is a game we can play with one book and some paper and pencils. We don't need them - we just kinda *liked* them before. And now we don't.
Your missing something I feel is very obvious they're saying "I'm leaving" not "I've left" leaving implies they are in the process of going away while left means they're gone, it's a subtle difference but an important one.

If I can't say something nice, I try to not say anything at all. So if I suddenly stop participating in a topic that's probably why.

How many times do they get to say "I'm leaving." and not actually go anywhere before people get to question whether or not they are actually leaving?

Edit: I think if you hated the restaurant enough go ahead and leave a 1 star review. But that doesn't give you the right to burn the business to the ground.

As many times as you get to complain about it.
i don’t really mean to be flippant, just direct
