I have done a couple of searches, but to no avail. I am wondering if anyone out there knows, is there a way to make characters as a DM that the players can't see? I want to make bad guys for the game, but can't seem to figure out how to hide them from the players. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated or pointing me to the correct thread if it already exists. Thanks all.
The easiest way is just to create them without adding them to the campaign, and add the link to their pages in the DM’s notes (Private). Otherwise, you can add them to the campaign, and your players would just be able to see their name, race and class[es] (with levels), but I suspect that would already be too much...

Yea just making them without attaching to a campaign is the best route since no one else can see that character. Do you need to have them in the campaign for sharing content sources?
Yeah, I was afraid of that. Yes, I wanted to use it for sharing content as I am limited in funds to get all the books, but one of our players bought the bundle.
Like Jacqsynn said. Build the NPC in the campaign. But then claim it and then remove it. Then the character that is made with all the content is not seen by the players unless they are on when you make it. You don't loose anything.

I'm afraid you'd loose access to that character if it has content you do not own and you exit the shared campaign.

If your talking about editing them after you have removed the npc then yeah, you won't be able to add the shared content. Thats why you complete it before you remove it.
Awesome. That is perfect then. So once you build it, it retains all the information unless you remove it from the character at which point it will be lost. If I am understanding this correctly that is. That will be perfect. Thanks for all the feedback.

Make a character named Joe Bob and add him to the campaign so you can see the share4d stuff.

You don't, i've done it dozens of times.
