So, I am in a campaign where the dm has enabled content sharing. I downloaded the books shared with me and I can use some of them for making characters outside the campaign but others I cant use. This is very confusing since I can read all of them but only use about half of them. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
Shared content will appear in the character builder if you build a character in that campaign. Otherwise, you still can read and open any content shared with you.

Yeah, but I can still use half of books even when I am not creating the character in the campaign so that doesnt explain much, thanks for the help though, maybe I didnt clarify the issue good enough if so, my bad
On Beyond, if someone shares content with you, you can always access the compendium content (as long as sharing continues). That means you can read the shared textual content of books (be they adventures or not) and look at monsters, classes, feats, items, etc. - basically, you can read any written content shared for you. This is so everyone can preview things they might want to get for their characters, read any options they might be considering, allow a DM to read and run an adventure they do not own, etc.
You can use any of that content for building characters when the character is created in a campaign. To do so, you start by going to the campaign where the content is shared, and click the link inside the campaign to make a new character. When you do so, all the available shared content for that campaign will be accessible in the character builder
You cannot use shared content you do not own when building a character outside of that campaign. If you go to the character’s section and hit new character (so not inside the campaign), you will only see content you own.
hi, if you see this do you need a paid subscription to use content shared by the DM. i have turned on content sharing and one of the campaign books is there i want my group to see but they cant see it.

One person in your campaign needs to have a Master-tier subscription and enable content sharing in the D&DB campaign. Individual book access can be managed, so maybe check for that if the book still isn’t showing.
Google brought me here so sorry if this is addressed somewhere else. If I get a subscription and share content so my party can create characters in a purchased adventure are they limited to the character feats and such or will they be able to see ALL of the adventure? Could they read ahead and see maps and such?

Yes, unless you block individual sources behind the manage content button in the campaign but Blocking a source will hide compendium content to prevent players from reading it unless they own it. No options or content will be removed from other tools such as the character builder, character sheet, or encounter builder.

Thanks, I think I get it now

Thanks. I got it all sorted. I appreciate the info.
