So I’m thinking about for my upcoming game having a section where they have to run away from something they can’t kill.
my idea is they have to cross a crumbling bridge about 200ft across but two giant tentacles come up and start flailing around so they need to now book it across!
I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to implement this cause I wanna incorporate some skill check stuff into escaping across?
I won't copy and paste since that's copyright infringement, but the basic idea is that everyone acts in initiative order as usual, but how many times you can dash is limited by your CON mod. At the end of every round, the creatures being chased can attempt a stealth check unless they were never out of sight during that round.
There are also a couple tables provided which give ideas on things that can hinder the people involved in the chase.
In your case you're going to have a limited number of things that can potentially hinder their run across the bridge. 200ft is roughly 7 turns of normal movement, 4 turns if they simply book it. I'd suggest implementing specific events at prescribed distances. For example, after the first round (140-170ft left) the tentacles destroy 2/3 of the bridge in front of the players and they need to perform an athletics/acrobatics check to jump the gap, otherwise they move at 1/2 speed to get around the gap. If they jump there's a risk of falling, if they walk around the gap, there's a risk of getting thwumped by a stray tentacle.

Have you seen the chase rules in the Dungeon Master's Guide?
