A friend of mine is planning on running a Zelda/BOTW D&D campaign, set a few years before the Second Great Calamity. I've been struggling to think of what character I want to make, so I decided I'd consult you guys for some ideas or inspiration. In terms of races, we're using the abilites of dnd races for Zelda races, so Hylians are Elves/Half Elves, Rito are Owlin or Aarakocra, Zora are Triton, Gorons are Tortles, Bokoblins are Goblins, etc. If you have any character concepts/backstory ideas let me know!
I do like the idea of a Goron Anthropologist wandering around Hyrule trying to understand non-rock based cuisine and writing travel guides for other gorons
There's an actual play one-shot by Critical Role that takes place just before Tears of the Kingdom, and everyone is playing fun takes on Zelda tropes. I think that could be a good spot to get some inspiration.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
I am also needing help building my BOTW campaign but I cannot find the right items

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for old age. Obey the law. Now repeat after me. "YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS"
Ooh: I've had this idea kicking around my head for a while now... I've seen a good few fan-made playable race stat blocks about; but far less in terms of items or custom sub-classes.
Another thing to consider would be "waht version of the Zelda universe" would one be set in since well: that's a bit fluid owing to wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey-stuff(TM)... along with Nintendo generally not being the biggest on consistent world-building.
As for some character ideas... some fun ones off the top of my head: - Rito Artillerist Artificer - Wants to build fireworks since they're an art form taht involves the sky - Deku Scrub Fighter or Paladin - Small plant-folk that wants to be a knight (Green knight?) to spite the cowardly reputation of his people - Kokiri Thief Rogue - They're already Hyrule's equivalent to halflings; why not make a Frodo/Bilbo analogue? - Zora Fathomless Warlock/Cold Draconic Sorcerer - Not that many overt water spells but as they say; re-flavouring is free - Hylian Cavalier - Presumably Loft-wings would be a suitable and awesome mount choice
