Hey all, I'm new here, and I am currently part of two D&D parties! One where I'm the player, the other where I'm acting as DM to teach my friends, currently writing the campaign. i may or may not have stolen various fictional characters to use as NPCs, including Alastor from Hazbin, Raine from TOH, and Percy from PJO. Anyway, if anyone has any tips, please let me know!
If you and your players are new to D&D, I would recommend one of the beginner adventures a lot of the work and balancing is done for you, or it is documented many places if there are deadly spots or your party size doesn't fit as published. Even reading through them will give you an idea of what monsters and how many are suitable for low level parties.
If you are gonna do it homebrew youtube is full of great information for new DM's, also start reading the various monster books, and beware the of CR system it is oft cited to be problematic for new DM's.
