I've got a very basic question: Where do I go to find what the free monthly perks are and how to I actually get them? When I logged on to D&D Beyond the other day I saw a free offer for something, but then it went away and I could find no reference to it or other monthly perks that I'm supposed to have with my subscription. Are these hidden somewhere, or do they just get added on to your account automatically? I really have no idea.
They add them to your account automatically so you don't need to worry about claiming them before a deadline expires. As for finding out about them there's usually a news item on the home page and they email you when they become available so check your spam folder
This always kind of aggravates me as well. Would be cool if you could log on and see what you get for free each month. Would add some excitement to the account and make me feel like you get a little extra for paying for the big subscription.
When I click on the subscribe page it takes me to a page where it ask me to log in or register and shows me the difference between a Master account and a Hero account. Just wish there was a better way to alert and or show them in my account.
Did they change the Monthly Perks rewards to "Drops"? I don't feel I've been rewarded new monthly perks in... well, months.
Yes - drops is a more expansive version of the previous maps system. We still sometimes get things like the classic perks (there were new backdrops this month), but also are going to get substantive content like monsters, perks, and items.
When they did monthly perks you only got them if you were a subscriber and you get an e-mail telling you what they were. They weren't unlocked content like species or feats or whatever. They were just cosmetics like a new sheet theme or some digital dice. Dice were accessed by going to My Dice and sheet cosmetics were accessed via the sheet.
Perks aren't really a thing anymore it has no moved to Drops. Drops now focuses on content rather than cosmetics and the content can be viewed under My Library > View All and clicking on Drops (you can type drops into the search to narrow it). If you access this often you can favourite it for easy access in the Library menu at top.

Thanks much!
