Unless the US price excludes sales tax and the UK price includes it?
We have VAT not Sales Tax, albeit similar. and it's only 20% which is not enough for the discrepancy.

I'm in the same boat. If I go on the US store and add a digital and physical copy of each of the 3 books, my total is $179.97, which is £141.63. If I go on the UK store and purchase the digital + physical bundle (which is the only option, can't purchase a physical-only copy), my cart comes to £179.97, which is $228.70.
Because if US customers purchase a physical copy for $49.99, they get the digital for $10 for a total of $59.99 (£47.21), and the UK price for the same is £59.99, there isn't an individual discount on the books relative to the current price an American can get.
I'll hold off 'til they can work out the inequalities in international pricing, or order from a local shop once the books are released
Drinking potions as a bonus action reminds me of a house rule from Matt Mercer 😅
I'd like to add some points to the summary. Jeremy Crawford talked about the compatibility between the 2014 and 2024 editions. Here are the notes I took:
PHB has a sidebar that talks about what's new in the book. It also clarifies that the book does replace the 2014 PHB
It's important for people to understand that so they don't try mix and match pieces of the two PHBs. You can absolutely use this player's handbook with the adventures you already have for fifth edition, and you can play a character from this new PHB right next to a character using the 2014 PHB
They have designed the new Player's Handbook so that characters built with it can be played with characters built with the 2014 PHB.
New character options, different baseline rules, different combat rules, the definitions of the conditions are different. If you are playing a 2014 character with 2024 characters they have designed things so that the 2024 rules are what should be used in that situation. Those rules can handle a 2014 character being present but the 2014 version of the rules will grind in a few places with a 2024 character. Terms used in the 2024 rules now have definitions that are exclusive to the 2024 edition.
Basically, you can play a character created with the PHB 2014 using the rules from PHB 2024, but it's better not to try the opposite.
WHy the 2 months gap between each books release?...
Whats the logic behind it?...
Easier on physical logistics chains, gives people who can't afford to drop a billion dollars all at once for the new book set a chance to stagger their payments. Gives each book a spot in the limelight, rather than all three fighting with each other. A number of reasons, most of which deal with marketing.
If I'm subscribed to Master Tier and we automatically get access to the new rule book will that automatically replace the old rule books? I want to continue using my benefits but I don't want to even touch the 2024 stuff. Is there a way to opt out and just continue using the 2014 rules without anything being overridden or buried in menus? I just want to keep using what I have as it works. I don't want this new stuff. Is this going to force me to unsubscribe?

Don't buy the new rulebooks.
Master Tier doesn't auto get you the new rulebooks, it *does* give you access to them on D&DBeyond 2 weeks early if you buy them/maintain your sub to Master Tier.

Subscriptions do not unlock book content.
The new books are separate, not replacements, so the 2014 books will not be updated.

And to clarify: There are no perks to preordering digital-only?
From the Digital Only page in the marketplace:
Dragons of D&D digital art book, D&D BEYOND Gold Digital Dice set, and a 50th anniversary digital Gold Dragon mini releasing with the closed beta of the upcoming 3D virtual tabletop.
It does seem you have to get the core bundle to get those preorder perks though.
There doesn't seem to be a digital-only bundle though, I can only see ways that I have to order them separately. All the ones I can see are bundles for digital + physical? Maybe I'm missing something...

Does this mean that subclasses not brought forward from 2014 will not be compatible with 2024 classes? What about other subclasses what do not follow the new 3rd level attainment system from Tasha's and the rest?
If I understand your question and the new video, subclasses NOT included in the 2024 PHB will work in alongside 2024 characters but are, effectively, differently classes.
So if you, like me, have a hexblade warlock based in the 2014 ruleset, that character can - theoretically, at least - function just fine in the new rules but I think is treated, effectively, as a different class rather than a subclass, since the underlying structure and rules of the warlock have changed.
This would be the same for other subclasses that are not included in the 2024 PHB.
I live in Australia and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. The cost of US$180 is fine but I don't have the option to purchase just the physical copies and I also don't qualify to receive the preorder "digital" bonuses that are delivered through DnD Beyond which I have a linked account and pay a subscription to. It's going to be hard to sell the idea to my significant other when going over the costs and benefits. I may hold off and see if things change - it will give me more time to convince the minister of finances ;D

If we bought 2014 sourcebooks, IE the Players Manual, DM's Guide, or MM, will we also get the 2024 versions of those rulebooks, or at least get a discount on them?
If we bought 2014 sourcebooks, IE the Players Manual, DM's Guide, or MM, will we also get the 2024 versions of those rulebooks, or at least get a discount on them?
To the first part: no. These are being treated as entirely new books, not updates/revisions to the existing ones. They'll need to be purchased separately.
To the second part: as far as I know, no, merely already owning the 2014 books doesn't grant you a discount on the 2024 ones. There's been a lot of talk in this thread about a bundle and discounts, though, so I'd recommend you go back and read it.
backgrounds list three ability scores, choose either +1/+1/+1 or +2+1 from among these.
character creation chapter has table to show which backgrounds enhance which classes. (This suggests the free mix-and-match of 2014 is gone).
75 feats include background and "epic" feats at level 19; some of Tasha's feats have migrated.
1: ok so what 48 subclasses will there be? Just removing some of the ones from the earlier 5e books might have been easier, but I'm willing to bet that about half of the fanbase (including me) will be haters about not being able to play their favorite subclasses.
2: I hate hate HATE the background rules. Part of the fun of dnd is being able to build a character in basically any way you want while still having it be viable and fun to play. This will remove the viability of many combos of background/class. In my opinion, one of the best parts of the customized origin rules in TCOE was being able to make any race viable with any class. This just ruins all of that.
3: epic boons finally being available as an addable part of the digital character sheet is neat, but background feats seem kinda like a bad thing. Sure, you get a free feat, but what if it's not one you want? That gives the player another reason to choose a mechanically better background instead of the one that's true to their backstory. Also, once again, what feats will there be from earlier 5e books? Why not migrate all of the Tasha's feats? Why be lazy to get the book out earlier at the expense of content that I can guarantee that people will miss?
There seems to be a few things wrong with the 2024 rulebooks right now, but I'll have to look through them before I decide.
Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)
My singular brain cell bounces around the inside of my skull like the Sony logo, and every time it hits a corner, it generates a coherent thought.

there's also only so many printing shops and distribution lines as well. and WoTC probably claims most of them during big releases like this.
It would also require them sitting on the finished books. Would you rather wait till February for all three.
Added on, with the exception of 4e the three core books have always been staggered.
