I currently DM for two groups on alternating fortnights. Our session prior to tonight's was... well, let's just say it left me feeling a little deflated. It was no-one's fault, really, things just didn't come together well and the entire session fell flat.
Fast forward to this fortnight's game and tonight was a blast. The PC's had entered a new island being crafted by an efreeti who had torn a rift from the elemental plane of fire into the material realm. Salamander workers crafted the magical elements oozing up as lava into all sorts of igneous rocks. It had taken forty years to build a 300m diameter island in the middle of a lake. All because a PC's father had ventured into the lair of a marid in search of a wish and had accidentally released an efreeti from it's Iron Flask prison in the marid's treasure horde.
I used the Traps Unearthed Arcana to craft a huge and complex dungeon filled with deadly hazards by changing the traps to be lava oriented. Toxic and explosive gasses, obsidian sharded pits and the like. Some of the island had been crafted to near completion and resembled aspects of the City of Brass. This was to be the efreeti's base of operations in Faerun to launch slave raids against the citizens of Amn. It had to be as prestigious as the noble efreeti himself.
On making their presence known to some salamander workers, the salamanders simply retreated through the lava tunnels. The PC's didn't follow since they didn't know how to avoid the traps, and why bother when enemies run away? Better to spend time exploring shiny igneous rocks with gemstones inside them. That led to the efreeti being alerted of their intrusion and on seeing the likeness of the PC to his pet captive (who he kept around as a slave out of sheer ironic amusement since the person had been responsible for his freedom), he immediately suspected him to be a dutiful son coming to rescue his father, albeit forty years later.
Being an efreeti noble with the shapechanging power, he turned himself into the likeness of the PC's father and pretended to be a slave of the efreeti. The PC's didn't see through the disguise and so the efreeti led them all to the treasure room, saying that they could all ensure the efreeti would be their's to control if they just snuck into the treasure room and picked the Iron Flask off the pedestal in the centre.
And they fell right into the trap. The poison room from the Trap UA. Things were looking bad. They were taking a lot of damage. And then a PC pulls off a door from their Robe of Useful Items and simply walks out. That is of course when they find the efreeti busy summoning a fire elemental. They interrupt him, but he gets away and his fire giant and salamander allies protect his retreat.
Using a Bead of Force with a salamander and fire giant trapped inside being transported via Misty Step into the poison trap room, and a Daern's Instant Fortress blocking the two doors out, and a few Arcana checks to determine what the heck this Iron Flask actually was, and that's when they realised that the efreeti had been busy gathering all his forces and summoning that fire elemental in preparation for a massive final assault.
Not to be deterred, however, they decided to open the Iron Flask... and out popped a very grateful marid who granted them each a wish that had to be used within the next minute. Thinking quickly, they wished for the PC's father to be right beside him, the efreeti to be imprisoned back in the Iron Flask, the island to be reverted back to what it was before the efreeti had been released, and to be teleported home. Because the marid was grateful and the wishes weren't selfish, he decided to not twist them and grant them based on the best possible interpretation.
Oh and add in a rogue who could see through a crystal door with brass mechanisms inside it where a fire giant had the key and unlocked it... and so she stood in front of the door and relocked it, really angering the fire giant on the other side :D
All in all, a great feeling after a great session following what I considered a dud. It's sessions like these that are the reason I love D&D.

But it shows up like:
EDIT: Huh, doesn't like having Bead of Force in there for some reason.
Oh I see. If a tooltip isn't available for a certain item or monster etc it'll show up as a blank. I read right over that! :) It could either be a misspelling on your part, the item doesn't exist in the tools, or they've yet to tooltip that item. Bead of Force
Nah, I checked spelling and they have the items. It just doesn't seem to like the mixing of items and stuff. Happened with the Robe of Useful Items too. Looks like I found a bug!

And I LOVE the session recap with all the tooltips! Man, just imagine how cool PbP could be with all the tool-tips and a built-in dice roller tied to the character you're posting as :)

Yeah, I tried editing your post. I'm going to copy that over to dev and debug it to see why it's failing.
Sometimes I feel so pumped after a good session that I can't go to sleep until the next afternoon (my sessions usually end at 3 AM, and I'm meant to be in bed around 4 AM), so it's nice to hear someone else get a great post-session feeling. Thanks for sharing.

Actually, even after a dud session, my brain is so wired that I can't fall asleep for ages. The game last night finished at 10.30pm and yet I was posting in this thread at 2am.
Probably also the reason why I posted in General instead of Story & Plot. Too tired to even realise :D
