I'm just curious if DDB will create a system for updating our current 2014 characters to the 2024 rules. I don't think that all our online characters should automatically be updated without our permission, but I also hope there will be a way to update the characters if we choose. As opposed to having to rebuild the characters again from scratch, of course. I'd just like an 'update to 2024' button to pop up, and if I click it, it creates a copy of the character, makes the necessary adjustments, asks me a few questions to clarify decisions that would have had to have been made during level progression, and BAM!
Since you need to make choices between options that may or may not still be available (or need to pick between options that weren't available originally), I don't think it would be possible to have a 'convert my character to 2024' button.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.

True.
Just try converting a half-elf Conjuration Wizard with the Acolyte Background to 5.5e and things get messy.
Half-elf because no longer exists.
Conjuration Wizard because the subclass isn't in the 5.5e PHB but you still need to swap the subclass to being at lv3.
Acolyte background since you'll need to choose feat options that weren't present. And if your half-elf had put racial bonuses into STR/CON/DEX then even beyond the messiness of +2/+1/+1 to +2/+1 or +1/+1/+1 you need to figure out how those other scores are getting reassigned.
Add in spells that have had their effects changed and it just keeps getting messier.

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.

Get rickrolled here. Awesome music here. Track 48, 5/23/25, Immaculate Mary
I made a copy and changed the class and race to 2024 and just had to do a few adjustments. Took about 5 min.
You can make a copy then put them both on the screen and have the original to reference. Easy peasy.
Converting a Warlock 1:1 is a challenge :-(
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a Mimic.
