Myself one of the reasons I started back in the day all those years ago was that my purchases were gonna up to date with errata which is what was gonna happen to all those spells and items myself I don't get that benefit I have to go through and make sure everything is the new versions, which yes they will have a toggle for but will take up more space on my phone and my chromebook. This is due to the panic of stuff is changing and I'm not getting what I want which is fine and all that but folks just cause a company is doing something it's not an evil thing

The new PHB is not errata, WotC have been very clear on this.
The complaints were that we had been told for months that old content wasn't going away, then finding out with 2 weeks notice that that they were planning to remove content*. Thankfully DDB realised that that was wrong and have reversed course.
I'm don't understand what you mean about the old stuff taking up more space for you? As long as you leave the legacy toggle off none of it should appear in the character builder. On the app it will only take up space if you download the old PHB, and if you wanted old subclasses you'd need to do that anyway. The only difference I see is that old spells may pop up in the compendium search, but the source should be clearly labelled, and you have the same issue with any existing legacy content.
The only difference this has made is that someone switching to 2024 rules will have to switch spells to the new versions on their character sheets rather than it happening automatically, however in most cases you'd also want to change everything else over to the new rules anyway which means rebuilding the character so I don't see it being much more work.
Considering the alternative was that people couldn't keep their 2014 characters at all, it seems a reasonable outcome.
* Before the usual gang come in to try and claim nothing was being removed, I am well aware that the spells etc were only being removed from the character builder, if you prefer to call it functionality being removed go ahead. The point is that we would no longer be able to keep or make characters using the 2014 rules we'd purchased. Especially as the removal of the spells also meant other features couldn't be used under 2014 rules.
After reading so much of this forum, I really don’t understand how or why people are so quick to defend a large corp on the grounds of “rational”, logic, reason, and whatever philosophical drivel they can conjure. It’s like they think they’re looking up from a book counseling quarreling children. Telling people who paid for a service for convenience to suck it up, only to then complain about the inconvenience (search bloat) of giving people the product of convenience they paid for is hilarious.
Many have “evaluated” the material, and decided they would like the service they paid for. Not everyone has physical copies, or the time to look it up or make hombrew items for everything. And they shouldn’t be gate kept because a site and its admins are too lazy to give people what they paid for.
People paid for these digital items and the convenience promised them in the ToS.
It isn’t that hard for D&D Beyond to create a separate tab for 2014 rule sets. Roll 20 has it, and they can do it here.
EDIT: Apparently they have walked back their plans.
Time to organize another boycott.

You're a few days behind the news, they've reversed the decision. No boycott was or is necessary
