So in the 10 races in the 2024 PHB, the ones missing from the 2014 version are Half-Elf, Half-Orc, and Gnome. I'm pretty sure they aren't doing half-races to streamline things, but what happened to gnomes? My favorite race is forest gnome, and I don't want to have to buy the 2014 version without the new stuff just to be able to play one.
Edit: Mb I’m somehow blind and didn’t see they were still in, thanks for telling me

Tbh I feel gnomes have a much more unique identity than halfings and are far less cliche and one dimensional than elves and dwarves.
Gnomes originated, like elves, in the feywild or whatever equivalent you use. However, unlike elves, they took their discovery of the prime with passion, curiosity and enthusiasm. Where elves went "oh no this is so below us" gnomes went "crap this is hella interesting https://100001****/".
I think Gnomes still make the best Wizards in some ways. They get bonus spells at least and they might also work well with the Artisan background and Crafter feat if they are a Rock Gnome.

Huh. Trying to homebrew a new lineage variant for gnomes is a PITA. My concept here is
Lawn Gnome: you have the ability to become petrified as an action. While petrified in this manner, you remain aware of your surroundings and may take a short or long rest, but may take no other actions other than removing this status as a bonus action, and you are indistinguishable from a stone or ceramic statue of a gnome (the player should define the details of how their statue form appears).

That's disappointing. I can understand not giving us Goliath, and Aasimar (I am a bit mix on the Orc). But Gnomes, Dragonborns and Tieflings were free in the 2014 basic rules therefor (maybe it's just me) logic dictates we should get them in the 2024 basic rules.

The Free Rules aren't the SRD, which isn't scheduled until 2025. It's unknown whether there will be intermediate updates, however.

We didn’t even fully get gnomes, rock and deep are free but forest (which are my favorite) aren’t

Uh, what? Gnomes are in the 2024 PHB (pg. 191.)
Happily forest and rock gnomes both are alive and well in the 2024 PHB.

Yeah that’s why I like them cause with a forest gnome you play with the vibes of an Elf but without the one-dimension.
Hi Chat
The lack of the lawn gnome as an option is, however, a tragic failure.
LOL
Wisea$$ DM and Player since 1979.
If this hasn't already been an April Fools' release, I'd be equally disappointed.

There are no RACES in D&D anymore.

Oh right, “species”
Hi Chat
Oh right, they’re called species now
Hi Chat
Is there a plan to add Gnomes (as well as Dragonborns and Tieflings) to the 2024 Free rules?
I don't think so, unfortunately

The 2014 free rules just had the same four species (plus only the Fighter, Cleric, Rogue and Wizard).
