The title pretty much says it all. Why are they still updating the 2014 core books, Tasha's, and other source & adventure books? In the BBD app it's indicating that these books need to be updated. They don't say exactly what's being updated? Are they changing content? Is the original content that I purchased being changed to conform to the new edition (2024)?
I have no intention of using the 2024 content and I don't want them making changes to the digital books that I have already purchased.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the Beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
They are updates to things like formatting and hyperlinks being incorrect. I remember just a short while ago, turning the screen into landscape mode busted the column of writing for one of the books and hid it behind a tiny sliver of a window.
Changes to content are errata and are different. I believe they get change log announcements on the site when they happen.
Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid I guess. My biggest fear is that they would go in and "re-write" the books (adventures or source books) to conform to the 2024 edition.

It would be more likely that they will sell new versions of them so they can just get paid twice for virtually the same book. Same work, twice the money. :P

Being able to sell new/revised editions of already published works is (from the POV of the publisher) one of the great benefits of producing a new edition.

Hell, they are forcing the 24 ruleset on people that do not want it right now.

Errata is free when it comes to online digital "books" within this tool set, so I doubt money is the driving factor in this use case.

Yes it is, but as we have been told ad nauseum this is not a new edition, nor is it errata. What it is remains to be defined other than a supposed profit center (guess that loosely makes it a revision, however incomplete it is) right before an earnings call with no real benefit or upgrade to the 2014 ruleset.

On the app if you tap your little picture in the top left you can access a change log to see what they're changing. The latest is listed as "minor bug fixes and improvements" so nothing too sinister. I suspect as they're trying to stamp out the fires caused by adding the new addition they're fixing long standing bugs to the site and app in general as a side effect

That changelog is for the app itself and the versions of it. That changelog has nothing to do with documenting changes to books when updating books.
I can't find anything that says what changes to the books are being made.
Although I believe it is just errata updates as well as links, grammer, spelling and other minor changes.
Looking a bit more into this I believe it is tool tips.
Tool tips now refer to both current rules and legacy rules.
The 2014 PHB entry on conditions shows the 2014 rules for that condition. But click any tool tip and it shows current and legacy rules for that condition.

The 2024 rules are free and backwards compatible though. Even if they did that (which I doubt, considering how nitpicky they are about keeping the digital books, errata, and physical books in sync), an adventure book suddenly using the 2024 terminology wouldn't force you to buy the 2024 PHB. It'd just annoy an existing customer for no good reason.

While I don't know what they're doing, it's likely that even changes that make the system work better for your purposes would require updates.
