Yo! so first things first i have no official news on this and its just me throwing ideas out there.
I have a feeling that the Artificer class will be in the new DMG for a few reasons but these 2 are the main ones
they have been talking alot about crafting in the DMG and while everyone can use it Artificers are known for crafting its kinda their whole thing.
The Artificer class itself even without the crafting is full of magic items that showed up in the DMG but if a player didn't own it then they couldn't see said items. If the 2024 version functions anything like the old one then putting it in the DMG with all the magic items only makes sense to me at least.
tho to also point out flaws with this idea lol if it was in the DMG they would prob do a playtest for it and they haven't yet tho maybe they didn't think much needed to be changed like they did with alot of the tashas stuff. If it was going to be in the DMG i also feel like they would promote that to get people excited and want to buy it more.
I hope with you since I love that class, but I sadly believe it won't be in there. They seem to mainly focus on rewriting the stuff that already was in the books. Also printing a whole class in the DMG would be a weird choice since it's for the players not the DM

true tho they did also add the death cleric and the oathbreaker paladin in the DMG if i remember right so its not fully impossible
While crafting and Artificers definitely have similarities, they're more parallel than sharing a space - they don't actually share mechanics really except you need access to the finished products in either case (at least in 2014e, perhaps they might make crafting more involved this time?). Given that the magic items are strictly controlled by the DM and so the assumption would be that at least one person at the table would have a DMG to let the player borrow magic items from, I don't really see it as being held as a deal breaker.
It'd be nice to have it there, but there's no especial reason that I can see for them to include it and, as someone said, it'd be a bit of an odd choice of placement.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Yes they kinda did, same for the first 5e printing of the Aasimar, but the two subclasses were clear examples for subclasses made not for players, but for npc characters with character levels (as stated in the DMG). Aasimar were also in there as an example for how a DM could make up new races from existing ones.

i was mainly talking about the replicate magic item where that feature had a ton of DMG items in it and a few tashas ones i think
I think if they were going to put artificer in the DMG, they would have said so specifically by now.
And I don’t think they’ll put an entire class behind the DMG wall. The subclasses in 14 were meant to be optional, and primarily villains. That is not the case with the artificer.

yea thats my thought too. I think im just wanting the artificer to come out before the end of the year but i think the honest truth is we will be lucky to see it around Q4 of 2025 or Q1/2 of 2026
They've pretty much gone through the whole DMG and listed each chapter and "oh and a whole extra class" was noticeably missing. Given the two announced Forgotten Realms books I think we'll see a lot more of these player/DM split books if they're successful so fingers crossed for another Eberron in 2026
The DMG is not a book for players. It makes no sense to put a class there. The only reason Oathbreaker and Death Domain were in the DMG is because they were options for the DM if they wanted to allow evil Paladin and Cleric players in their game.
Besides, the Artificer isn't in need of any major updates. Tasha's content is already very similar in design to 2024 content. The book is full of feats with +1 to an ability score, which are now the norm. Many of the optional class features in Tasha's were lifted as is for the 2024 PHB. The Artificer pioneered the ability to switch cantrips on level up, the Battle Smith's Steel Defender established the template for the 2024 Beast Master, and the Armorer already had pseudo mastery effects built into its armor's magic attacks.
I doubt it. Entire classes wouldn't be included in the DMG, which is meant for DMs, not players. Hopefully it will be included in a later book, though it might be a bit of a wait, because most of the new books (that I know of) that are coming out are not the kind of thing that would have that.
- 2024 PHB; no
- 2024 DMG; probably no
- 2024 MM; definitely no
- Greyhawk setting book (gazetteer, etc.) and Greyhawk campaign anthology (something like KtoGV or JTtRC); 15% chance
