I'm looking for something to use for inspiration tokens. I want them to feel rewarding to hold and spend. I don't know if anyone else feels like this but I prioritise tactile feelings.
Im trying to think of something relatively cheap to order 5 of that would work. I considered metal d20s but five would cost £25ish which is a bit more than I'd want to spend. I've been trying to find metal tokens. I love the metal warmachine coins for tournaments but I don't have enough of them (plus they're prized possessions :P)
Can anyone think of something from ebay/amazon that would be cheap but decorative and substantial metal coins?
If you lived in the U.S. or had a friend who does, a Gold Dollar would make an interesting choice. They only cost $1 each and as a bonus retain their value of $1 u.s. of course. Since you live in the UK these would actually look more interesting and unusual as they are very unusual in the U.S. (you can get them from banks, but most people never do).
They look pretty weighty and have a mild fantasy theme. I got some Mayan calendar coins, some Armor of God coins, Knights Order coins and some Masonic Order coins.
The Armor of God one had a Bible reference on it that I might grind off, as with the Mayan Calendar reference but otherwise they're pretty perfect for £1 each delivered.
I did look at poker chips as well but I really wanted metal... I don't know why. I just feels more rewarding and I'd want to spend it more over just using a marker or token (I did look into metal poker chips as well... Too many/too expensive)
I use fancy glass beads that look like gems. Instead of giving to players, I use it as a group resource that anyone can gain or get use of. Similar to trading. I put them in a shotglass so everyone can see how much is left.
My DM for Storm King uses pink, rubber pig tokens that have goofy grins. About 2" tall. It's hard to forget you have Inspiration when you have a pink pig grinning at you.
The big chunky coins that I bought from ebay work great. The players love them because they are fantasy/sword and sorcery themed ish, feel great in the hand and fit most of the character tropes quite well.
On a side note I've also found that inspiration tokens are great for rewarding players for good play and getting them talking about it. When a player did well/wise just slipping them a coin instead of making a who ha about it got the group debating what they did to earn it :)
I've switched to using metal d20s with a gold effect and a serif font, made by Ultra Pro.
My players are desperate to roll them, and I roll them around in my hand (probably a sign of stress!) so I'm always thinking about how to dole them out.
They are stupidly expensive though. But I love them. I'm a generous and benevolent go— er, DM.

Wow. Those are really nice looking. I'm tempted.
What I did, was to go to my FLGS and hit their clearance dice to get the most butt-ugly dice I could find -- mainly because there's no way to mistake whether that neon puke green mixed with hot pink die is part of someone's set. Each player has a specific color assigned to them. These are the only dice that can be used for inspiration the dice can only be used for inspiration. Then they get tossed back to me.
I did do one extra tweak with inspiration to make it a bit more interesting for the players. Inspiration can be used to grant yourself advantage on a check or you can use it to force disadvantage on a foe. In all cases, the inspiration die is rolled by the player spending inspiration. This gives the players some "control" over the NPCs. There's always the option of having an unfudgeable die (not that I fudge much, but it's a nice assurance for them). If they're paying attention, they can also figure the NPC's attack, save, and/or skill bonuses, too.
I've only had inspiration spent for disadvantage a couple times, and it took them a bit to realize that they could get the extra info, but it was very intentional, on my part. Without the inspiration die, I don't think I'd allow it to be thrown for disadvantage. With the die, it runs a lot more like invoking an aspect in Fate.

Those are really awesome looking dice. You are indeed a generous and benevolent DM. :)
In the campaign I'm running, a large machine is featured prominently throughout and plays a crucial role so I got some metal jewelry charms in the shape of gears from Amazon. It was a pack of 70-80 for around $5. The players seem to like them, they fit with the theme of the campaign, and I prefer handing out inspiration regularly so I have the option to give people more than one.
Apologies these links aren't for Amazon or EBay, but you may be able to find some for sale on there?
While at Gen Con, I purchased some tokens from Dapperdevil (http://dapperdevil.com/category/game-tokens) that are acrylic and they're pretty nice if you want something that feels nice but is a light weight and a more affordable option. There's a specific inspiration token they sell but I feel like the d20, crossed swords, or action point tokens are good alternatives.
Another purchase I made was from Drawlab (http://www.drawlab.com/product-category/accessories/legendary-metal-coins/) which are metal. These are really awesome. They're definitely my favorite sets, and at Gen Con, fortunately I could mix and match but they're more expensive but some really nice weight to them. They feel like real coins with significant value even though they feel more like currency? With all the options of flavors of coins, I feel like one could just pick an appropriate style to fit a game.
A nice in-between option might be from The Broken Token (http://www.thebrokentoken.com/metal-coins/) though it might be a stretch to award their options for inspiration specifically.
I was thinking about this myself. After a quick search on aLGore's marvelous internet, I found these on the thingiverse pages. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1985685/#files I'm lucky enough to have a friend with a high quality Formlabs SLA printer who will print stuff for me at his cost. But there are plenty of options out there to have stuff 3d printed. I think they'll do nicely once I've painted them coin colored.
Each player is going to get one with their character's name on it, and I'm creating the following house rules:
Everyone has an inspiration token, which they can give out to reward good roleplaying.
Tokens cannot be given to someone who already has a token (other than their own).
Inspiration tokens are returned to the token’s owner after their use.
Inspiration tokens received can be used in the following ways:
To gain advantage on an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check.
To take the Dash, Disengage, Help, or Hide action as a bonus action.
To impose disadvantage on an incoming attack as a reaction.
To reroll for damage / healing and use the better result as a bonus action.
To impose non-critical damage when struck by a critical attack as a reaction.
To gain temporary hit points equal to twice your proficiency as a bonus action.
To subtract your proficiency from damage received as a reaction.
Obviously it's an honor system, but I figure we're all adults, so I'm just going to trust that they'll use them for their intended purposes (not going to police them). My hope is that there will be more roleplaying between them. I tried to make sure the additional options aren't overpowered (I think requiring a bonus action or reaction for all of them helps), but the additional options should encourage them to not hold onto their inspiration, which in turn leads to more opportunities for them to reward each other for good roleplaying.
There was a similar thread that inspired (ha... ha...) me to add the additional options, but these rules are my own implementation.

There's more than 5, but they're inexpensive.
I did look at those but not quote what I'm looking for send they are a little more expensive in the UK :(

Gold dollars would have been pretty cool. If I had thought a out this just a day or two ago I had a family member travelling from the states! Nm.
I ended up finding a load of decorative medallions/coins like this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222452496730

We use poker chips lol
Each person gets a poker chip that they can give to another player to then use as inspiration (you can only have one at a time).
The DM also gets some to give out when they feel a person deserves one.

I found some large d20's that are significantly larger (about 3" diameter). I think they were $2-$3 each and they really stand out.

We all leave footprints in the sands of time.

Dear god I love that idea of Piggies for Storm King!!! Big Runes would be pretty awesome too

I got a set of these for about AU$10 which is about £5 or £6. I gave one each to my players as a momento.

I made a holy symbol of Lathander for my cleric, I can flip it over to the blank side when it's used up.

I'm actually going to try something new this weekend, though it's not just a physical token change.
I picked up these wooden tokens from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017IC96S4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
