Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm trying to buy the changeling race to use in my friend's campaign, but I can't find individual buy options anywhere in the market now. I stopped playing DnD for a few years, and this is my first time back on the site in a pretty good bit. Do you have to buy entire books now for one thing you need? I really can't afford to spend $30 right now, I just wanna play a changeling ;o;

No, unfortunately they removed the ability to purchase individual character builder options last year.
However, if your friend owns the book that that species appears in, and has a master-tier subscription, they can share it with you for use in a campaign.
Ultimately I expect piecemeal just wasn’t a major buying segment and they were losing too much effective value on books being gradually purchased across several years, particularly since that could significantly increase their electronic transaction fees.
Why not just feel the market out for piece meal and not allow piecemeal purcases to be applied to the cost of the book. Solves several of the claimed issues with strung out book purchases, and to many fees for the purchases. I mean if you want to make it easy on players that don't have a lot of money to spend on the hobby.
It was that way from the very beginning, at least from the 1e days. It is just more noticeable now, partly because we have had a series of economic downturns after an exceptionally long period of prosperity, but also partly because they waited a decade to put out the next edition. There were similar uproars over 3.0, 3.5 and 4e, when they came out, and that was when things were still only in print, so definitely no piecemeal purchasing.
Stepping in here folk to remind folk not to cast judgements on each other for their financial status or habits. Advice is welcome, judgement is not.
Unfortunately yes, á la carte went away in May last year with our Marketplace Redesign
With á la carte gone unfortunately there isn't as easy a way to get access to a species you like without purchasing the book as a whole. There is content sharing if any of your group is interested in purchasing it and there is a possibility of looking into which books contain the species you like and which ones better suit your options. For changeling for example there is the more legacy version from Eberron Rising from the Last War, a great setting book for Eberron, an even older sourcebook of Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron. Or the newer one from Mordenkainen Present's Monsters of the Multiverse- which also contains a lot of extra monsters and species to use in your game, and would be my recommendation. There is also the much, much older UA version but that is not official supported by D&D Beyond.
For supported options on D&D Beyond, it's easier to buy the books for the convenience, but you are allowed to homebrew in a species for private use (Do not publish anything copyrighted).

Going to reach out to you privately, once I figure out how content sharing works and if it's restricted solely to the he campaign content sharing is enabled in
If.you want access too 90% of the pre 24 garbage, send me a pm with a link to your campaign and I will drop a character in your game if you have a sharing level subscription to DDB.for free, no strings attached.

It is specific to the campaign that has the sharing enabled. You can access the book to read it outside if the campaign, but the character builder options are only available to those characters currently in the campaign.
Once a character has the option selected, it will stay in the sheet and be usable etc even if the character leaves the campaign. So if the character is given Silvery Barbs and leaves, they'll still be able to cast Silvery Barbs. However, once they leave, they'll no longer be able to add new content, so they'd have to rejoin to gain access to things they didn't grab before leaving.
Classes and Subclasses can be progressed outside of the campaign, but can only be added inside. So, say you make an Artificer, you can leave the campaign and still add levels, gain their features etc. However, if you created a Wizard and wanted to Multiclass into Artificer (but didn't add the Artificer before leaving), you'd have to rejoin the campaign to be able to do that.

Ughhh, that sucks so hard. No idea why they removed it, it was my main draw to the website.
You're right, its back to pen and paper for me :'P
Thank you guys for letting me know!! <3
Because they wanted to try to sell the new 2024 rules completely intact rather than people just buy piecemeal. Safe bet that was the reason.
Not a fan of this either, but they are a for profit company dealing in a luxury product.

Just speculation but would put my money on transaction fees being more then the piecemeal cost
