i'm a new d&d player, been one since i've seen my fiance dm for a round of buddies with him asking for advice every so often from me, but i could never join his campaigns since (A) he like to talk about the campaigns stories/plot. (B) i work nights , 4:30 pm est till about as late as 1 am est, and my days are always so irregular that keeping up with a scheduled game is so hard. i dont have people i can talk too during the day since most of my friends work days or are housewives with children they gotta look after. i've gotten so used to just listening in to the group play i've basically given up wanting to join a dnd session thru dnd beyond or even roll20...
Well... If you do have the occasional night free, check out AL play in your area. It's not the same as a good bunch of friends an an overarching campaign, but it can scratch the DND itch.
Depending if you're in a big city or not, finding a game shouldn't be hard, and there are usually a lot of stuff happening weekends as well.
The PbP forum section here will really scratch that itch if you have an irregular schedule and are OK without playing with voice! I DM 3 different groups and PbP scratches my itch to be a player enough to keep me going!
been kinda looking at that i might do that i just want to know how to go about progressing as a player and as my character (like rolls and not suddenly dropping into a game unannounced)
PbP Rules and FAQ, Please Read First! Is a great post! It will teach you pretty much everything you need to know about joining! You'll have to look for a post that has the recruiting tag on it and apply with your character and typically the DM will contact you if they accept you into their game!

i will look into it thank you
Great advice! Im new to PBP and love the flexibility it gives me to not be on it all the time. I have a crazy schedule - I think you'd like it.
The biggest issue with PBP is finding a game :P
I had some luck a bunch of years ago, but lately (in the last year) I found it hard to find a game.
