Hey, I apologize for crashing in like an errant and wayward fireball, but I've got questions. I don't know where or who to ask, so if I could have a little help finding help it would be well appreciated.
Well a good start is to tell us what the question is, or at least what it pertains to, as then we would have a clearer avenue of directing you toward the help needed.
Is it a site question?
Is it a rules question?
is it a lore question?
is it a table conduct question?
Is it actually a set up to "WHAT IS A MAN!? A MISERABLE PILE OF SECRETS. BUT ENOUGH TALK HAVE AT YOU!"
More info please.

Okaayyy... it's mostly site questions. Like how do I change my username? If I already got a physical book, is there a way to get the online version? How is a campaign played online? Is there a free/unpaid alternative to maps?
There’s a pinned thread in the bugs and support forum for name changes.
You can not get a digital copy of a physical book you own. You can buy them here or use the homebrew tools to input anything from those books as long as you don’t publish them. But you’ve got to pay with money or time. Or be in a campaign with someone who owns the book, and someone who has a master teir subscription. (These do not have to be the same person.)
When you say “campaign online” do you mean play by post, or play in real time? And with a group you already have, or are you looking to join one?
If I already got a physical book, is there a way to get the online version?
Nope
How is a campaign played online?
That's a fairly big question, but the simple answer is you play D&D like you would at home, but instead of talking face to face, you talk via discord/slack/teams/skype/teamspeak/etc. That's the basic level, everything else just builds on that such as a VTT (virtual tabletop), digital character sheets, dice sharing etc.
Is there a free/unpaid alternative to maps?
Yes, there's Owlbear Rodeo which has a free version, and roll20 has a free subscription tier. There may be others too, there are a lot of VTTs out there.

Well, I buy the physical book on Amazon and, then, if the book had interesting features, I might purchase the digital version from DnD Beyond. Of course, I am a Baby Boomer, fuddy duddy who is more comfortable with MS Excel, MS Word, WordPerfect, MS Windows, MS Access and ANSI 1988 COBOL than I am with on-line character creator tools such as DnD Beyond or Code Monkey Publishing's version of e-Tools. In about 20 years or so, I will shuffle off to that massive bit bucket in the sky and you will not have to be concerned about my opinions.

I wasn't concerned about you opinions in the first place as I wasn't responding to you, but the OP?

Yep. To add on, when posting online, don't ask to ask a question. Just ask the question.

Afaik, there is no free maps version.

This thread has been a rollercoaster from start to finish.
