Here's mine: A tiny, perfectly stereotypical fairy (tiny size) (think Tinker Bell), except she has a deep well of anger and is a barbarian. She wields a giant battleaxe. Giant to her, anyways. It's only like 5 inches tall.
Years sgo, I ran a Pixie rogue with severe narcolepsy for a while. The group thought it would be awesome to have an invisible, flying rogue scout around or fly in and unlock doors, etc... I forgot to mention the narcolepsy part when we started out...
Quite a long time ago I ran a 2e Human Thief who lived the lie that he was one of the greatest adventurers of the land. He paid minstrels and bards wherever he went to sing ballads of his (mostly imaginary or overinflated) deeds. After several sessions of this he began to be feted and treated deferentially at every stop along the way much to the irritation of his companions, most of which could mop the floor with the Thief if it came to blows.

That sounds hilarious! How many times did the party find your pixie peacefully napping on the floor?
This would be late 1e or very early 2e. We had a rule at our table that it you died you could either take over an NPC such as a hireling, until you had time to generate a new character. Well, I had no hirelings and we didn't have any NPCs on the session that my wizard died. But I did have a pack dog to carry my spelll book and supplies. So, because I didn't want to sit around doing nothing, I asked the DM if I could play as my dog. He was okay with it as long as I stayed in character. So here I am, playing as a dog who had just lost his master and lugging around a book and junk while attacking anything that came at us.
By the end of the session we were having so much fun with this that I decided to carry on as a dog. A couple sessions later as everyone had stated leveling up, the DM gave me some extra HP. A couple more sessions and I realized my dog still had my spell book, so of course I asked the DM if my dog could start studying magic, maybe guided by the spirit of his dead master. So, about a year later, most of the characters are high level and are retiring to running a keep and such, so I decided my dog would retire to being the guard dog for our favorite tavern. Most memorable character I ever played, most fun too.
I did just recently play (as an NPC) a Kobold Draconic Sorcerer who really leaned into his Red Dragon heritage. ALL fire spells, answering as many questions as possible with "Do you not yet understand? AM DRAGON!" and so forth. I always characterized his Draconic Roar like young Simba in the Lion King. The group seemed to enjoy him.
I played a pet mimic that was raised by a wizard, and through his life was his spellbook, and when he died of old age on the way to rescue his granddaughter from a noblemen who had abducted her, i mimicked his form and played as a sorcerer that looked like an imperfect copy of him.
Rest of the party thought i was the gimmic joke character until we got to the noble's mansion, it was on fire and was being made more on fire, by the granddaughter who were there to rescue. She was the Party's new Barbarian, and she was a halfing with pigtails who's main weapon was a fancy chair from the noble's dinner table. to make things worse, the fighter was the Noblemen's brother secretly, and was there to stop him to redeem the family name.
Me playing a mimic that used to be a spellbook and could barely string together full sentences because i had NO language proficiencies, was the most normal of the bunch. The Elven ranger encouraged all our unhinged behavior so she doesn't get a pass for being normal.
I got the party out of jail by pleading their case in interceptive dance. ( Which should not have worked ) and by the end of the oneshot, i was given a normal life....IN A CHILDREN's PETTING ZOO.
I think the DM was the least normal out of all of us, but that character concept was still the most unorthodox i got away with.

That's beautiful! In one of my campaigns my DM let the party adopt a bear after saving its life because we got a gazillion natural 20s on Medicine and Animal Handling checks. And now if my current character dies, I'm probably gonna be that bear. Thank you for the idea, ArcaneScroll!
Also, here's my favorite character, I've yet to use him but I'm excited to try: Heskan the Echo Knight Fighter / Order of Scribes Wizard. His story will only make sense after my current character dies. Once my current character does die, and if I don't go with the bear idea, Heskan will encounter their ghost. And that ghost will fight by Heskan's side as his echo. So I can roleplay both Heskan and my other guy! Yay! Their Awakened Spellbook is actually a novel that they wrote together, but empowered with arcane energy. It is what binds their spirits together.

I wouldn't say that's an unorthodox character, but it's a REALLY cool concept. Very creative!

I'm happy you like the idea. Playing as something out of the usual is always a great bit of fun.

Gnome barbarian with the Mounted Combatant feat. Plus a centaur wizard.
Gnome is small. Centaur is medium. This allows the gnome barb to ride the centaur wiz.
Because of Mounted Combatant the barb can also redirect attacks from the wiz to him.
Slashing and Magic combined into one dangerous tank.
This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.

Edit: so many typos
