In the start of the book they talk about Ahghairon’s dragonward, here is a quote from the book 'Dragons and all other creatures of the dragon type are physically unable to enter the city (or its sewers) as long as the dragonward persists.' and 'A creature of the dragon type that is touched by the dragonstaff of Ahghairon’s can ignore Ahghairon’s dragonward and move through the city freely.'
My question is about dragonborn, does the dragonward stop them and need the dragonstaff to get in making the hero's have to gain permission to enter or no?
I'm going to be running this and if one of my players are Dragonborn I'm probably going to have them feel uncomfortable. Like a constant itch under their scales that they can't place and don't quite understand, an uncomfortable feeling that makes them feel as if they are unwelcome. And if they come across any other dragonborn in the city, I'd have the fellow dragonborn NPCs say they feel it too, but that they've gotten used to it over time. It'll give them a neat little payoff when/if they ever discover the staff and what it does.
I'll add this thought. The Inn of the Yawning Portal is in Waterdeep. From Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, we need only look at who is in the Key to the Yawning Portal and see who is in the Inn: Matt Mercer. Therefore he has the ultimate answer to this question! JK, but Dragonbait IS there (from Tomb of Annihilation-at least that is where I know him from) and he is a dragonborn. It looks like there are a few others with him, so I don't think that it would be logical to say that they all were touched by the dragon staff.
Was going to let this go because it is an old post but couldn't.
Unless Wizards changed cannon Dragonbait is not a dragonborn, he is a saurial, a race from another plane decended from dinosaurs. The rotting God Moander plane shifted a tribe of saurials to the Forgotten Realms (book Azure Bonds). Dragonbait, a finhead, is one of four subraces of saurials.

Yep, that lore is still current. He's also not a Paladin, he's some other type of thing that's kind of similar to a Paladin but different. On his world they don't have paladins.

Dragonborn are of the type "humanoid" so they're ok. :)

Dragonward would probably just give dragonborn weird dreams
As per Ed Greenwood.

Thank you! This will add a lot of good flair to my upcoming game!

Dragonbait is not a Dragonborn . He is a Saurial which are closer to dinosaurs than dragons. I’ll post a link https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dragonbait
