I would love to know if there is like a magical Costco out there with stacks of Cloaks of Displacement. I have yet to see a character sheet that does not have one of those on them. It's becoming a standard item for D&D players right next to the Helm of Awareness.
2) Stops working on a hit in 5.5/2024 till next round.
3) It is an illusion and a ton of creatures just ignore them. Even bats for god's sake.
4) Being rare, for anyone that cannot cast dim door, a cloak of the mountebank is better. No attunement, 1/day dimdoor will get you out of grapple/restrained/ etc. and cross massive distances with your ally.
It's not like your party inhabits the same world as every other party, though. Sure, every Forgotten Realms campaign takes place in Faerun, but there's an infinitude of Faeruns. Each party is having their adventures on their own Faerun, where maybe a handful of people in that world have a cloak of displacement.
I've never seen one in any of my games, neither players asking me as DM or a DM giving them out when I play. As Xalthu says might just be the people you're playing with

As a player and DM who’s been in lots of different campaigns playing continuously since 5e came out, we’ve had 1 ever. Maybe it’s just your group?

I second cunning smile comment above.
How are all of these characters getting them? Is the dm passing them out like candy?
Never seen anyone use a Helm of Awareness either now I think about it
The only one I've ever seen played was when I purposefully placed one for a Paladin who was the only frontliner in a small group.
