Wonder why they are going with Unlight instead of Faerzress. The energy that suffuses the underdark.
I could be wrong about this, but I don't think Unlight and Faerzress are actually the same thing. Unlight sounds like something the Imaskari developed or derived down there, while Faerzress was there from the get-go before the Imaskari showed up.
also sounds like a good explanation

While possible, it seems like unnecessary duplication of effects, since its effects are pretty much identical. I would assume it's just another name for the same thing -- there's multiple languages in the underdark and the particular word Faerzress appears to be elven.

I think the most likely approach is that they will position Unlight as a specific application/derivation of Faerzress that's unique to the Imaskari. They seem to be describing it as a technique that's specific to them, whereas Faerzress is usable by a wide variety of creatures/societies down there.
we have like ten wizard subclasses we could have used another druid. every ua the wizard is favored,
The way to encourage the design team to do that is for people to provably play Druids via metrics DND can measure:Make their Druids on DND Beyond, & play said Druids in campaigns via Maps.
That's where they get their data from in terms of what's "wanted".

An awful lot of game lore involves wizards doing stupid stuff, so anything tied to game lore has a high chance of involving wizards. Back in AD&D days sorcerer and warlock didn't exist, druid and bard were kind of irrelevant, so if you wanted a spellcaster messing with things Man Was Not Meant to Know, you pretty much chose between magic-user and cleric.
To be fair I believe Titan and Preserver are both on the docket for upcoming releases, so that should be something. I am surprised they haven't updated stuff like Wildfire and Spores to 2024 yet, though.
I think the Imaskarcanist is the first NEW subclass for the Wizard in 5.5, whereas all the other classes have had 2-3 new subclasses (including both published and in UAs).

I feel you on this, but i totally get why. Besides the lore of Wizards always experimenting and being a staple of the series since the beginning like Pentagruel says,, and Maedera's observation that Druid is one of the least played classes on beyond, and i am going to say even further, that it is one of the least played in 5E and 5.5, wizard has more demand.
That being said, as a Druid player WoTC does need to step up their game. If we stick with underdark theming, then the Faerzress and its effect on the wildlife is a perfect opportunity for a new type of druid with wild mechanics that let them enhance or mutate their wildshapes with Faerzress energies and do things that only the extremes of the underdark would consider natural, and everywhere else would consider aberrant.

I think we’ll probably see at least one more UA with Underdark options, assuming that it’s for a sourcebook: most of the 5.5 sourcebooks have had 7-9 subclasses. Hopefully, we’ll see an Underdark Druid, as it could indeed be an interesting one.
