WOTC_Zac: That page currently is on our old, legacy infrastructure that we're in the middle of a massive effort to replace. It's features like this - that SHOULD be simple but often take weeks of work on the old platform - that are why we're replacing it.
We are shaving off slices of it where and when we can as we move through the rebuild process - campaign creation and management is pretty high on this list. DEFINITELY assume there will be better sorting features when this gets upgraded!
[Maps Request] Ability to interact with elements of a group
Under the More include an icon for each of the tokens in the group. Clicking on that token will close the group menu, and open the menu of the specific token selected. Giving us a way to set conditions, change monster health, show token art etc. without having to ungroup all the elements, make a change, then regroup them.
Since some Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks have already been officially translated into other languages, why aren’t these localized versions available on D&D Beyond?
[Other possible reason: Localizing text in the Character Builder and other elements is impossible until they rebuild the back end, because the lists are all hardcoded in English.]
WOTC_Zac:Your "Other possible reason" is pretty spot on. The character builder was not built ten years ago with that in mind. We're factoring that in as we build the new platform though, so localization will be feasible with our next gen tools.
Fr. At this rate, they're gonna start pulling people from everyone except possibly Foundry.
WOTC_Zac: I love that Foundry exists for people who want that level of capability. But we know that can be overwhelming or distracting for other people, and that's why Maps is what it is.
Does someone know if this improvement: “Improvement: Lost Mine of Phandelver maps added to Maps VTT.” Mean it as quick play and/or scene prep?
WOTC_Zac: No quickplay or scene prep for it right now - we were missing the maps for that adventure due to some complexities with the original files. But we sorted those out, so if you own that adventure, it now has maps available!
I know it's early, and very cheeky, but I already have a feature request - It would be sooooo much better is I had the option just to write in markdown, rather than having to mess around with choosing the formatting from the menu. But maybe this is just a *me* thing.
WOTC_Zac: As a huge Obsidian nerd.... oh man, my kingdom for markdown.
But also, there are a lot of people who are not Obsidian nerds. :) We wanted to get this out the door as soon as we could and start getting a temperature check on how many people would want Markdown before we do the work to support it.
WOTC_Zac: I'm very excited for how this feature will make it easier for DMs to reduce cognitive load, reduce context switching, and close a bunch of browser tabs.
I don't know if anyone else have this problem, but I can't organize my sceens in maps. They just appear in the way i created them. Is there any way to change wich order they come in?
WOTC_Zac: As of today(!) you can rename them using the Scene Prep window. Then the dropdown is now sorted in alphabetical order, so you can control the order that way.
WOTC_Zac:This is not the first time we've heard this, but it's super weird. I brought it up again and I believe someone will be looking into it tomorrow again.
Any chance we can see sample pages of [Legends of Greyhawk Modules] like they do on DMsGuild?
WOTC_Randy: That's fair! This is a digital-only product and wasn't designed for print, so navigation and overall feel would be similar to other compendium content we currently have on the site. What in particular would you like to see to help you decide if this works for you? We work with the publishers on what to put on the product detail pages.
you know how you have the first of the "Dungeon Masters Play along pack" encounters free? Post one free LoG module. Not even the whole pack (I think those have 3 or 4 modules in them). just one adventure so people can see what they're like.
WOTC_Randy: Fantastic! Let me take this back to the team and see what can be done.
There are some weird things happening with the Familiar Trainer/Familiar Friend/Warlike Familiar on the character builder. For some reason Familiar Trainer gives you a different version of Familiar Friend so Warlike Familiar doesn’t show up when selecting feats because it’s separated by ability. But also when you do get warlike familiar selected, for some reason it doesn’t add Battle Familiar it adds “Flesh to Cheese” to your spell list. I’m not sure what is happening. I did confirm that this happened to a friend of mine as well.
WOTC_Zac: I thought "Flesh to Cheese" was something that someone had as homebrew unintentionally, but now more people are reporting it and I'm so bewildered by this. I'm letting the team know about this mystery spell.
Quick clothier could be clearer about standing up to scrutiny and distinguish it better from disguise self. Knowing if it has similar mechanical impacts to disguise kits or costumes would be good too.
WOTC_Zac: It's not an illusion. It fully alters your clothing.
Thanks as always Perring for the summary. Not much this week that interests me as I don’t use Maps but I will say it’s always nice to see Zac talk about how great some of the competitors like Obsidian are. Really gives a sense that whilst WotC obviously want as big a share of the VTT market as possible the actual people designing the site understand you can’t please everyone and that different alternatives exist for different users needs
