What is your all-time favorite race and class to play? For class you can include multi-classes as well if you like. And if you'd like to share why as well that would be great.
Feel free to list/discuss your Top 3 or Top 5 if you can't pick just one, lol.
As my icon implies, my favorite Race/Species is Verdan, and my favorite class is the Vestige Patron warlock with a dip in fighter first.
I actually came from World of Warcraft with a goblin warlock as my first and main. Even then though I was attracted to more gish style play when it was available, thus supporting my multiclass.
As for Verdan and not goblin, I found Goblin to be more confusing and taxing on me with abilities like Fury of the Small limited to proficiency bonus and Nimble Escape adding to what I could do. Then the free Acquisitions Incorporated came out, and even in the name it gave me a happy reminder of the business-style goblins of WoW… even though the race itself seems more alien and sincere in nature. Regardless, I love the concept of limited telepathy, free persuasion proficiency and the possibility of combining black blood with lifedrinker.
Subclass-wise, I started out technically a hexblade dip with a divine soul sorcerer back in 2014 rules (getting a natural 20 on my first eldritch blast!). It was designed as an OP build I found online, but I loved the duality of it. However, I felt that I wasn’t utilizing my sorcerer aspects well enough, so I switched to a pure Celestial Warlock. (These were all oneshots.)
Currently my group has been on hiatus, and even so they asked us all to pick something different, so I went with a Path of the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian Variant Feral Tiefling. However, I have still been experimenting with my first love, adding the Fighter dip and most recently switching over to the dark side as a Fiend Patron Warlock. I already dig the Pact Seeker background and learned that you don’t have to have made a deal with a devil so much as have provided services rendered (such as saving my on again off again Imp familiar from bullies at my old clergy.)
What I’d really like is to join a group with Arcana Unleashed to play as a Vestige Patron Warlock. The fact they are in a period of transition in what they are fascinates me, and I love the playstyle!
Class: Paladin & Cleric I feel helped me cover almost all bases. Relatively safe and easy to use but also quite potent. Cleric was my first caster, and it was just right. Cool subclasses.
Monk is satisfying for the action economy as a melee but needs a little homebrew love to not struggle (multiple area dependent means few feat choices, since you need most ASIs to raise stats).
Species: Harengon species is pretty nasty, especially on a Cleric running Spirit Guardians - that extra movement from Rabbity Hop, no Opp Attacks, plus proficiency in Initiative and Perception feel huge.
Elves are also so versatile, they always end up on my list for possible species on most builds.
As my avatar implies, Fairy is my current choice since everyone in my group is trying something different in our current campaign. And I'm enjoying it quite a bit actually. Sorlock with Archfey Warlock and Wild Magic Sorc just to lean into the who unpredictable Fey thing.
However, favorite would have to be Drow going back decades. Just something about them that appeals to me. Play them in Pathfinder as well.
For class, I'd have to say Wizard is the all time favorite. Yeah, they can be squishy but the utility is something I really like. Battlefield control? I'm your man. AoE needed? Hang on I got you covered. Need me to clear out the mooks? Fireball on it's way. Need something identified or something opened from across the room? Allow me to assist. Just lots of options that are a lot of fun.
Having said that, Warlock has really caught my attention. Played a Hexblade in the latest Seasons at me LGS and really had a lot of fun with it.
(Disclaimer: I am a 5.0e/5e 2014 holdout. My opinions are based around that sub-edition)
Race: Half-Elf. I also like Leonin and Genasi
Class: Paladin
Leonin on a 2014 Paladin is a good combo , since it gives you something worthwhile to do with your bonus action every now and then. Good skill choices and 5 more feet of movement is solid.

Since I have been a Forever DM since 4th, I will only be talking about my characters I finished a Campaign with.
"Mariel" (Actual name was NSFW by accident, and being dense I didn't notice until after the campaign ended.) She was a AD&D Elvin War Wizard (Fighter/Mage) Due to my love of this character she is the basis of my mains in every CRPG and MMORPG since 2000.
The second one was my AD&D Elvin Pirate (Thief) while I forgot his name, I tend to use the charcter archetype often. Think Disney Pirate elf with twin swords and spells. The DM gave him two swords, one evil the other good, as my character was Nuetral he could use them. One sword had a powerword heal, and the other had a powerword kill.
Edit: Note by Pirate I mean the Buccaneer Kit from the Thief's handbook pg 31, and he might have been a Half-elf. Been 30 years since that game.
Using 2014 stuff my favorite was/is Volo's Guide To Monsters version of Triton with Barbarian (Path of the Depths 3rd part subclass from Legend of Runeterra: Dark Tides of BIlgewater) multiclass Warlock (Marid Genie) using Pact of Tome, its a bit weird but ticks a lot of boxes for me.
That said, I do love Variant Human as a Wizard necromancer which would be my go to combo if I needed something "simple" to play in a hurry.

Gnomes because they are the "little ugly duckling" of the core races, rejected by the most of players, the aasimars are the good boys with the best grades at school class sufering the syndrome of the tall poppies. Warforged are perfect to show or explain how a neurodivergent thinks or behaves.
I miss the psion. It is like when you want to wear the fashion style of certain urban tribe with its own mark of identity. Let's try to explain with other example. The psions are like the hipsters of D&D classes. It is cool if it is not too popular.
I love being sneaky and agile. I really enjoy having a lot of interesting things to do outside of combat. Assassin with the Infiltration Expertise and Impostor features, Phantom with the Tokens of the Departed, and Mastermind with Master of Intrigue. Swashbuckler is just a fun subclass to play all around.
Rogue may be one of the weaker combat classes, but I enjoy how open it can make the world feel with how many useful skills it has available.

Species: any.
Class: cleric.
Anzio Faro. Protector Aasimar light cleric. Lvl 18.
Viktor Gavriil. White dragonborn grave cleric. Lvl 20.
Ikram Sahir ibn-Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad. Brass dragonborn draconic sorcerer Lvl 9. Fire elemental devil.
Wrangler of cats.
I like playing Rangers and I gravitatate towards Elves and a LOT of 3rd-party species.
DM, player & homebrewer(Current homebrew project is an unofficial conversion of SBURB/SGRUB from Homestuck into DND 5e)
Once made Maxwell's Silver Hammer come down upon Strahd's head to make sure he was dead.
Always study & sharpen philosophical razors. They save a lot of trouble.
Don't have a favorite class, but I tend to prefer Planetouched PCs (tieflings in particular, but also aasimar and genasi).
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Species: Halfling or Tabaxi.
Class: Rogue
