Guys, the OP had a satisfying answer before most of you even made your accounts on DDB. Sure there are some new options in the 40 months since this thread ended, but I don't think the OP needs our help finding it (since if they are still playing, they have been for over 3 years).
Yeah, I'm on another forum that gives warning before you post a reply to a thread that hasn't been active in at least six months. Really cuts down on the necros, especially ones that are replies to questions that are no longer relevant.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
"So now she’s drawing pictures of what her potential pet dragon will look like."
It sounds like she's becoming invested in at least part of the game which is good is it not?
Will it hurt the campaign to give her a pet? If so, explain the why of that to her. If not, then she has a fair point - if she raised the dragon from an egg it wouldn't have the same mentality towards humanoids as others if you're wanting to use old lore and not homebrew something.
"Maybe I’d have it just eat her..."
This is a horrible idea in my opinion. She's expressing joy to you over something you started with her. Why would you want to hurt her with it?
At the very least you're actually looking at a chance to teach her pet ownership responsibility if you don't already have a pet in the home and she talks about wanting one in the future because there's a lot involved in having a pet even imaginarily; there's food, bonding that needs to happen or it will abandon you, and general training if you want it to do more than just stand around all day.
In my opinion, she's already given you a way to just say "no" straight up without breaking her spirits - 'if I find an egg could it work?', she simply never finds an egg if you don't want to go this way in the game. There's no need to be mean about it either; if she asked if there's eggs after killing a dragon or helping one escape say "No. This is an adult/young dragon and all it's children have moved on to be young dragons/it doesn't have any kids". You don't have to deal with pets in the game but she still gets her dream of finding one and that's like her character goal; if you play into higher levels that's her end of campaign reward - after so many years of searching her character finally finds a dragon egg and can run off to play dragon rider or whatever. :)
Flying off into the sunset as a fabled hero on your dragon buddy - what would be more fun that that for her?! :)

Sorry!
Like others here all I saw in the main forum area was that there was new activity in the posting so I assumed it was still active.
Is there a way to lock topics which have answers to the original posters question so no content gets added thus bumping it up on the main page to seem like it's still wanting activity? If so, that would help as not everyone (clearly I'm one) checks the date of posted content and thusly gives new comments to the referenced situation. If not, fine but just know new responses to very old questions will continue to happen as people search the forum and want to weigh in on topics posted they feel they can maybe add to the discussion or just want to give their opinion for old polls.
Necroing isn't considered a problem on DDB (SFB - it wasn't you that necro'd it anyway). If new posts are relevant to the discussion, they're fine. They may not be relevant to the OP anymore, but they might be relevant to someone else in a similar - and someone found it to resurrect it. Just...keep it relevant for others, really. Which is what we should be doing anyway - whether the thread is necro'd or freshly created.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
It isn't against the rules to post in old threads (anymore). Threads are left unlocked (and the rule was removed) so people can continue a discussion if new information or ideas come up.
I just wanted everyone that was replying to the OP specifically, that I don't know if they will even check this old thread anymore, let alone still need advice for a 3 years old campaign.
DnD lore actually said many dragon (mostly metallic dragons) actually prefer the company of humanoids and sometimes spend most of their lives in their human forms around other people, so lore wise it wouldn't necessarily eat her haha
The “who is really the pet? Storyline isn’t just Aspirin’s, I think it was Heinlein’s who had a 3 novel sequence about a boy who was raising an alien “dragon” he found after a crash. By the end of the novels it turns the alien is a princess and has been raising humans as a hobby while waiting to be rescued. She takes the grandson and his bride back to her world as “ambassadors” as she doesn’t want to stop raising her “pets”.

Also Lockheed the dragon from Marvel Comics- he's actually a species of cat-sized alien that looks like a dragon from Earth lore. Kitty Pryde thought he was her pet for a long time but as far as he was concerned, she was the pet.

For those interested this is my version of the Pernese “fire lizard”: https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/1784126-dragonette
look for the dragonette in the homebrew monsters it’s listed as public access.

Feed her imagination, build a world where she dose some how befriend a dragon, they could grow up together be a whole plot line for a world.
We once had a bronze dragon hanging out with our group polymorphed into a cat just because. DM had a lot of fun with that.
Drakewarden ranger. Boom, she has a pet dragon.
