Warlock levels, with Pact Magic, do not increase your multiclass caster level.
You determine your available spell slots by adding together all your levels in the bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard classes, half your levels (rounded down) in the paladin and ranger classes, and a third of your fighter or rogue levels (rounded down) if you have the Eldritch Knight or the Arcane Trickster feature. Use this total to determine your spell slots by consulting the Multiclass Spellcaster table.
ok wondering why this didnt click earlier, based on that second paragraph I'd only be a 4th lvl multi-class caster.
A Paladin of 6th lvl by half is 3 plus 1 warlock lvl equals 4th lvl multi-class caster
Also thanks think I found what I was looking for in the paragraph after that one
"If you have more than one spellcasting class, this table might give you spell slots of a level that is higher than the spells you know or can prepare. You can use those slots, but only to cast your lower-level spells"
Answering my question (which isn't relevant since my math was bad) with a no LoL

@Stormknight: agreed?
Not quite.
Warlock is not counted for spellcasting levels. Warlock is not a spellcaster, but a pact magic caster. These slots function differently.
You would be a 6th level Paladin, and a 1st level Warlock. You calculate these entirely separately, but you can cast your Paladin spells using your Warlock slots.
If you were a 6th level Paladin and a 1st level Sorcerer, your previous understanding would be correct. 4th level spellcaster.

Trying to wrap my head around the spells, slot and pact magic
New to the game so here it goes, playing a 6th level paladin.
Meaning I have these spell slots:
Lvl. 1st 2nd
6th 4 2
If I multi-class with Warlock which gives pact magic, making my character a:
7th lvl Character 6th lvl Paladin/ 1st lvl Warlock (Question 1: is this right?)
If so this gives these spell slots:
Lvl. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
7th 4 3 3 1
Does this mean that with a 4th level spell slot available can I use 4th level paladin spells?
The rules for multiclass spellcasting can be found here (link to the Basic Rules version):
