So, what was the big update / maintenance yesterday? I remember the banner saying that the update will be described after the maintenance has finished, but I see nothing new in the changelog.
I don't remember the banner saying anything about a description, just that there will be maintenance, the time, that the site will be in read-only mode during it and an apology for inconvenience.
From time to time large websites will need to perform maintenance: updating the server software, rechecking backups, cleaning up deleted data, and similar tasks. Some of these take time, but that is just the process not really somebody coding things up. Think of it like a house: it's a thorough clean, perhaps replacing broken furniture with new ones, but that's about it. It seems unlikely this maintenance is anything more than that - I doubt it will have anything to do with site content or features. If I understand correctly, the team has their own deployment schedule for those kinds of updates. If it had been related to content updates there'd probably be an update on the roadmap or changelog. Since there isn't, I am guessing it is just standard server maintenance. This wasn't the first maintenance we've gone through, and there were no new features from those either. Every large business website of this nature needs to perform routine server maintenance to keep it fully functional and secure. You should expect something like this every 6 months or so, really.
I could be entirely wrong of course, I'm not staff or anything, just offering my thoughts on the matter from my limited techie knowledge.

Adam mentioned "server migration" on Twitter, I guess the maintenance also had to do with DDB "moving" from Twitch to Fandom, aside from the spring cleaning.

Born in Italy, moved a bunch, living in Spain, my heart always belonged to Roleplaying Games
A friend of a friend of mine told me in confidence that what actually happened was:
They were checking the restraints on the captive fire elemental that they keep in the basement to power the boilers that generate electricity for the servers. This is very dangerous work and requires subduing the elemental while the magical bindings are checked and reinforced. Everything went as planned and power has been restored.
Rumours have it that two workers were lost in the process. But luckily they were from Accounts so they have been resurrected as zombies and their lack of social skills and rudimentary language shouldn’t pose any problems to their ability to preform their jobs.
Well that is what my friend said anyway. 😉

No new feature has been uploaded. It was server maintenance.
Maybe in preparation for new features?

I can confirm that the maintenance had solely to do with AWS account migrations.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
