I've built dozens of items without a problem, but it appears that what I want this item to do isn't listed in the modifier subtype for some reason.
Whenever you attune to this talisman, you can increase one mental ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two mental ability scores of your choice by 1. This improvement is lost when your attunement to the talisman ends. As normal, you can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
It seems like I should be able to add the following modifier twice and be good to go: MODIFIER > BONUS > CHOOSE ABILITY SCORE > INTELLIGENCE, WISOM, OR CHARISMA > FIXED (1), but I run into the problem that none of the subtypes listed include these three ability scores. It just seems like the list is incomplete for some reason.
Unfortunately, at the moment modifiers in homebrew are limited to options granted from official content. That's why the closest you can get is DEX, INT, WIS, or CHA, but not just INT, WIS, or CHA.
It's not the most elegant solution, but you could quickly create a separate talisman with each mod, which would suck, I agree. Or considering the chances are slim the ability score is going to change from whatever the player initially picks you could just set those scores on the talisman and if they do decide to change them you could go in and change it for the time being.
Thanks, and I guess that makes sense, even if it's not ideal. I suppose D&DBeyond isn't primarily a magic item creator, so the system is highly dependent on official content. Thanks for your response!
