I actually made a post in this forum about this (no one responded either lol) my whole thing is this, the legacy of this game beyond playing it. That article really touched me, and then made me sad. Gary and Dave made this beautiful game, introduced the world to RPing, yet why do I feel like there’s something missing?
What were your thoughts about it?

"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

I couldn’t help but feel that there was something missing also. Like, there’s more to this story that should be here. And in the end, I was left wondering what the point of the article ultimately was about. Yes, it recalled a lot of the turbulent history of some of the early days but I was also left wondering how they got into millions of dollars of debt during the 80’s, things like that. I mean, yes they allude to some of Gary’s expenditures when he traveled but yet again, there wasn’t as much substance in some of the parts as there were others. Sounds like Lake Geneva, WI is the place to be, though, hehe! I mean the place has a beach named after Bigfoot, why not get Gary’s statue a better plot of land than a swamp?

I haven't read that particular article so forgive me if they addressed this in it, but TSR's woes were primarily due to overproduction of too much content as well as gross mismanagement.

It wasn't really about the mismanagement, but more in regards to his legacy after his death. This empire that he left at Gail's feet. You should check out the article, it was good. Definitely worth a read. I just wish the game had the draw that it has now before he passed.

In response to DrJK, I was a casual player of 3.5, then had an 18 year hiatus and jumped back in to 5e and have fallen in absolute love with the game. I've never known much about the background history/development of D&D, other than being told it was of the devil and that I couldn't play that because I'll become possessed (paraphrasing). Pretty much everything about that period of time of the 70's & 80's, I either wasn't born, or was watching Smurfs so I don't know anything about TSR. Thanks for the high-level summary, though :)

Long read, but I learned tons about Gary & Gail Gygax. I had no idea there was so much controversy and drama involved.
