Had a thought as a second time rogue, full time novice. Would anyone consider the possibility of using an actual dagger as makeshift ammunition for a light crossbow? Given the damage of an actual bolt, couldn't help but be curious. Found nothing so far with my google searches.
Personally, if I was DM. The Damage would be the Dagger's (1d4 + Dexterity Modifier Piercing, no strength option because your shooting it), the Range would be the Light Crossbow's (80/320), and you wouldn't get any Proficiency Bonus on the Attack Roll (improvised). So I would only do it as a character only if there was some special situation, or I was out of Bolts and needed Range.

100% up to DM. The rules as written do not allow that. At best it could be considered an improvised weapon RAW.
