When your turn comes up during combat, you can take 1 action, and possibly 1 bonus action (if you have one available.) One of the actions you can take is the Attack action, which lets you make 1 attack.
If you're wielding a light melee weapon in each hand and use one of them with the Attack action, you can take a bonus action to make 1 attack with the other weapon. This is covered in the Combat rules and is an option available to any character:
Two-Weapon Fighting
When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.
If either weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon, instead of making a melee attack with it.
The Fighting Style option just lets you add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, which you normally don't get to do.
Depending on your class you might get the Extra Attack feature at higher levels. This lets you make 2 attacks instead of 1 when you take the Attack action, but that doesn't affect the bonus action from the two-weapon fighting rule.
Does taking the dual wielding fighting style mean that you can attack twice? Neither me or my Dm know lol
Nope. Let's back up a little.
