I have a couple of warforged characters currently (how i dont know, i dont have access to WgtE and i have never bought anything on this site. i also have access to kalashtar and shifters too *shrug*).
my question is: when the new eberron content drops, will i loose access to those characters until i buy it? will i keep them, but not get any updates the new content includes without purchasing it? or will they just update what i already have?
Are you in a campaign with content sharing on? That would be my best guess as to how you have access to those races. Once the new Eberron book drops it will update the existing content from Wayfarer's, there will be some additional stuff in the new book you won't get but anything that overlaps will be updated.
I'm not part of any campaign atm, at least not digitally. I just have access to a bunch of non-srd races for some reason. Aaracokra (i dont think they're SRD), an Aasimar variant, the shifters, Goliath, Warforged, the kalashtar, and a couple of random subraces for the others i dont immediately recognize from the PHB, like the marked half-orc subrace. So far as i know, i've just always had access to them, cause i made one of my warforged right after i joined the site about 8 months ago.
and as far as i remember, i've never bought anything.
The races of eberron were also released in a free UA, so you dont need the book to access them currently.
When the new ravnica book comes out, existing characters will not be changed or locked. Outdated versions of content will be renamed and will become unselectable for characters that dont already use it.
The new versions of the Warforged, and other Eberron races, will be available by purchasing Eberron: Rising from the Last War, or purchasing them individually.

*You should also still have them if you purchased Wayfarer's guide to Eberron.

So, i WILL get warforge updates then?
