I have dug around and do not see anything that would cause any effect on game balance, just wanted to see if there was something I was missing. I was also wondering what the importance of the type change is if it is not just for flavor. Seemed to be a pretty specific label in the spell description.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.
Actually, prot. evil & good mentions aberrations, so forbiddance is one of the obscure spells that treat aberrations differently from celestials, fey, and fiends.
What would be the negative effects of allowing a GOOLock to make their familiar an abberation instead of a celestial, fey, or fiend?

There might be an obscure spell that no longer effects the familiar, but that is the only thing I can think of.
Familiars get most of their stat block from the creature they are turned into, and that is still true.

It would affect how familiars react to spells like protection from evil and good, forbiddance, and the like.
