am new to the world of d&d, mainly being a table top player or PC Gamer so the world of d&d is pretty amazing stepping into it.
sadly, I never seem to want to do anything easy or basic and currently aiming to build a hexadin as that really appeals.. I did initially want to do an oath breaker but some of the people am going to play with seemed to take a sharp breath in and so far pretty much declined the request lol.
So if there is any kind sole who has the capability of offering one of these 50% discount on that one book I would be grateful. As I already have a list of extra parts I will want and need to get started.
am hoping I can enjoy this as much as the table tops I play and can stay alive more than the first few encounters!
i generally like to play Paladin or rogue classes, in WoW it was rogue primary and a alt of a paladin. I Used to main tanking with the paladin but I feel the desire to be able to take some hits, but be able to put out some big damage and so far the idea of the hexadin is really appealing. Being able to summon a hex blade, then being able to smite and cast at the same time. Just sounds super cool, it also reminds of a shard blade from the storm light book series!
sadly everyone else am going to be playing has already picked casters and ranged, so been left with trying to make something that is totally unique to me but at the same time be a bit of a meat shield.
would have liked to dive into what rogues can do in these type of worlds but going to have to wait.
if anyone has any general advise on how to build the character, that would be great, so far I have watched and read a number of different guides and kind of tweaking them to what I feel fits.
or is this where people say hexadin is awful lol 😂
I've heard okay things about hexadins, they are the only thing that can triple smite.
Hexblade and oathbreaker are not in the PHB (some probably needed spells are). If there are ever any extra codes floating around, they will probably be posted in the coupon code thread (do not post a comment asking for a code, so help me...), but there are way more people looking for codes than there are giving codes. This thread has some great advice for people in your situation.
Thanks for the info, yeah a group am playing with are all paper based and books, where I want, kind of need to be digital to help me, so I already know initially I need to buy a handful ?things? Lol, like oath of vengeance, hexblade and some other things. Sadly I know me, if I get hooked I will end up buying it all here, would just be nice to gently start with the phi and some addons to start.
Apologies I missed that part, was half asleep reading the info.
So do I read it right, buy an essentials kit from Ebay? (not on the store here) and then there is a code, to get the PHB here at 50%? if so and it works right around £33 I can do that :)
Yeah. The physical Essentials kit is where the 50% off codes are coming from. You should be able to find it on sale for around 15$ US. Here is everything it comes with:
(1) rulebook (simplified basic rules plus some non-free PHB subclass options),
(1) Dragon of Icespire Peak introductory adventure,
(6) blank character sheets,
(11 ) dice (2d20s, 1d12, 2d10s, 1d8, 4d6s, 1d4),
(1) 33" × 8.5" Dungeon Master's screen,
(81) cards for magic items, sidekicks and more (to give to players for reference as they earn them),
(1) 21" x 15" double-sided poster map for use with the adventure,
(1) code for 50% the digital (DDB) version of the Player's Handbook (requires an additional 15$),
(1) code for access to (DDB) supplementary content, including additional adventure materials to continue the story into higher levels of play (includes the 1 adventure in the physical box, plus 3 more adventures, and all the creatures, items, and sidekicks they come with, all free).
There is a known issue with the font used on the code that makes l, I, and 1 as well as O and 0 hard to distinguish between.
So just to make sure, if you buy the physical essentials kit, you get a code so that you can access it on D&D Beyond as well, right?
The code unlocks the Dragon of Icespire Peak adventure on D&D Beyond - you already have the Basic Rules for free on here. You also get a code for 50% discount on the Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond.

What do you think of the advice of the second thread, just buying an essentials kit yourself?
You can find them online for very cheap, and will get the digital adventure and 3 sequels free and the digital PHB 50% off.

Ordered and awaiting delivery :)
my friend has also made contact with a group about to start a beginners campaign so hopefully might even get better experience!
Thanks mate
