So I'm aware that buying a race, such as the Gith, won't give you both subraces. But what if you buy both subraces & not the race? What happens then? Does buying a subrace give you access to the race, like buying Artificer subclasses? Or do you have to pay for the race and subraces?
Purchasing a subrace will allow you to use the parent race as well. This is intentional, otherwise the purchased subrace wouldn't work.
Then why is the parent race for sale separately? Mordenkainan's Gith, Volo's Aasimar, and eberron's shifter are all parent races for sale separate from their subraces.
