I was thinking about trying out roll20 as I can't go and play in person. I want to make a new character that I can just throw away if it doesn't work out.
I thought that he would be the last of his bloodline. The last person to carry his family name, and that he is cursed never to have children.
He is determined to make his family immortal, even if that immortality is only in the form of a bards song, but he is not particularly strong or brave or smart or good at magic. Yet; despite this, despite always being afraid, and needing to rely on others more than he'd like, he still throws himself into danger over and over again, because he's determined to become a hero worthy of song and story so that his family name will live on forever after he is gone.
How would I make and play this kind of character? I'd greatly appreciate any advice you might have for me.
Thanks

Good thing is that those are all RP concerns so you have the freedom to make this character any way you please, besides not being a full caster. Bad thing is those are all RP concerns so you have the freedom to make this character any way you please, so it's hard to give any concrete advice. I suppose we could just shoot out some ideas?
1) Noble Human (Hollow One if your DM allows this boon from the Wildemount book) Inquisitive (Revived, if your DM allows UA) Rogue: You were always the black sheep of your family. Where your siblings upheld the family name in honorable professions in the military or the clergy, you found yourself gravitating toward shadier dealings. You always thought you would be relieved if you ever found yourself freed from their incessant nagging, but then one night something came along and killed every single member of your family. Including you. You don't know how long you were dead, or why you rose from your grave, but now that they're not around, you realize how much you actually loved your family and miss their nagging. Is there a way to repeat what happened with you so that you can have your family back, immortal and undead? Maybe, but if not you're going to find whoever killed them and dragged your name through the mud. and when you do, you will make sure no one ever forgets your family's name ever again. You want to make sure they are honored, but something dark inside you would be satisfied with writing their name in blood across the face of the earth.
You could use some of the Defining events suggested in the Folk Hero background as things your character could aim to do. These are all the type things that might have a tale spread by word of mouth across the land (or at least within a few villages) and be picked up by a travelling Bard:
You previously pursued a simple profession among the peasantry, perhaps as a farmer, miner, servant, shepherd, woodcutter, or gravedigger. But something happened that set you on a different path and marked you for greater things. Choose or randomly determine a defining event that marked you as a hero of the people.

Defining Event
1
I stood up to a tyrant’s agents.
2
I saved people during a natural disaster.
3
I stood alone against a terrible monster.
4
I stole from a corrupt merchant to help the poor.
5
I led a militia to fight off an invading army.
6
I broke into a tyrant’s castle and stole weapons to arm the people.
7
I trained the peasantry to use farm implements as weapons against a tyrant’s soldiers.
8
A lord rescinded an unpopular decree after I led a symbolic act of protest against it.
9
A celestial, fey, or similar creature gave me a blessing or revealed my secret origin.
10
Recruited into a lord’s army, I rose to leadership and was commended for my heroism.
Your char sounds like the kind of person who would make a warlock pact. Undying springs to mind as thematic. Otherwise I might look at one of the classes that slows ageing like monk or druid. Backstory being the search for a teacher, adventure being when that teacher sends you into the world to test what you've learned.

Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!

Please take a look at my homebrewed Spells, Magic Items, and Subclasses. Any feedback appreciated.
Some reason I'm thinking one of the less comman races or even monster races. Gith would be cool. Maybe the last dragon. (dragonborn)
RP can be anything. You've described most young people trying to find themselves.
Class? Paladin, also bard comes to mind.
Have a grandmother that yells at you to have children to keep the line going (not from personal experience)

Maybe a unique elf subrace? Like Erandis Vol from Eberron.
You could become a Wizard, and eventually a lich just to keep your bloodline alive.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
Thanks for all your help everyone, it is most appreciated. I will share the character with you once I have made him.

Nice character idea! I'd be interested in how that turns out.
