I don't mind paying for content but I'm surprised this site doesn't charge you a $1.00 every time you log in. The business model is kind of a turn off. What's the rationale?

I don't understand your complaint. The only thing that requires money is content (subs are completely optional, only needed to share content). You don't mind paying for content. What is the problem?
All the tools are free (only alpha testing unfinished tools need subs). All the publicly available content is free. You can homebrew whatever you want for free.
Literally the only things that cost money is the content the publisher (WotC) requires purchased, and subscriptions for bonus services that go to support DDB. And there are very frequent coupons for the content.
I'm talking just paying for information. Like the description of what an ability does. You can find that for free anywhere else on the internet. I'll admit it's convenient to have it all in one place but the price is too steep.

If it’s not in the SRD and you find it for free somewhere else on the internet, it’s being published illegally. I HOPE you don’t need anyone to explain to you why D&D Beyond isn’t a pirate site.
you need to pay to fully make a charcter sheet like making a roughe thats a sailor: pirate varient which is part of the basic rule set which i was told is in the free content by cortex /

Hi there Jory,
If content is missing from the character builder, it means that you need to unlock the content from the Marketplace. The content available for free is from the Basic Rules/SRD, and only includes one subclass per class.
For more character sheet content, this would need to be purchased. Additional content can be purchased from the Player's Handbook, and other sources from the marketplace.

D&D Beyond remains the cheapest place to purchase official Dungeons & Dragons sourcebooks.
