Hi everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right Forum if not then I apologize!
My fiance and I just started playing d&d, we have a long-distance relationship and with the COVID going on it's been one of our favorite activity... Even though it's the 2 of us... Well for our 3 year anniversary I'm creating a dungeon crawl for us to do.
I'm the type of person who likes to have all the information I can possibly find on well just about anything, and as I was doing my research and information finding I came across something that gave the DM different scenarios for different actions a player might do when they are in a dungeon or in exploration mode and give tips for what the DM could do in that case.
for example: if a character decided to sneak around the room then the DM could add....
I remember it being in some kind of book or something and it was in a box off to the right-hand side of the page, why I didn't save it then and there is beyond me and I'm kicking myself in the butt for it. I looked all over the internet going back into my history and even looking in my books but I haven't been able to find it, maybe I'm going crazy, but I was hoping someone could help me out or even give me an alternative to use. Thank you all in advance.
I'm not sure of any book that can give you advice on different scenarios, but I do know some newer DM screens have ideas on them. I also know of a deck that you can draw cards out of to give a starting place for questing. I do think the best part of DMing is writing your story how you like it and giving the players something exciting to start with. I know from experience it can take time to come up with ideas on the spot, but many of the best DMs I've played with have to improvise. You can never know what exactly the players plan to do. Best thing to do is try to get to know how each player plans to play their character and each character's backstory. Write around what is the most likely to happen and always be ready to come up with things on the spot. In my time DMing I know that no book would ever be able to help me with some of the crazy things the people you guide come up with.
