Here is a picture of a boy. Do you think that he could pass for a Yuan-ti Pureblood? The character discussed in this post is a continuation of the character development that I started here.
There doesn't seem to be many official images of the Yuan-ti Purebloods; even less of male ones, and the ones that do show them, depict them as being mostly human-like except for a few patches of serpent skin. So; could I say that the only thing that gives him away as being Yuan-ti are patches of snake-like skin on his back and round his sides, which he can cover up with clothes? He also has strange colour eyes for a human, but I am not sure of any spell that can alter his eye colour long term, and besides people who see his eye colour would mostly think he is a Tiefling I believe. The main thing is, he doesn't want the general populace to know he is a Yuan-ti but doesn't mind them thinking he is something else, like a Tiefling. The reason for this being; where Tieflings are still treated very much as an underclass, in some circles, they are still widely accepted the world over whereas the Yuan-ti are feared and distrusted because of their heritage and snake-like qualities.
Humans in this world are afraid of snakes and have turned the Yuan-ti into something like the bogeyman. They sneak into your communities, your homes and taverns and your churches. They hide under your bed and in dark corners where they go unseen and then strike when you least expect it—stealing your children and loved ones away in the night to devour them, or as sacrifices to their foul god. A belief that perhaps, once had some truth to it, but which has now become nothing more than an irrational fear. Nevertheless, Yuan-ti almost always ends up as criminals and villains and in those fields have become experts. Some; like the character's family, have even become wealthy through their illegal activities. Not because they are innately evil, but because that is the only way they can survive in a world that considers them to be at best; animals, if not vile beasts to hunted and killed. So the character would much rather people think of him as a Tiefling and pass for a human whenever he can, then know that he is a Yuan-ti.
I will also add that there are snake cults hidden around the world. Specifically, cults that worship Sseth whose members come from all races, even the human race. Yuan-ti Purebloods who join these cults almost always become compelling leaders, due to their duality; being both human and a serpent, and their position as "favoured" ones. There are very few snake cults now compared to what used to exist, and few Yuan-ti ever join them. It is the continued existence of the snake cults that drives the humans fear of the Yuan-ti and snakes, although as I have just said, some humans do join these cults as well, and all races become members.
All that would be meaningless, however, if he doesn't look like a Yuan-ti in the first place. So, what do you think, could this picture be a picture of a Yuan-ti Pureblood?
The Yuan-ti pureblood look human with maybe a forked tongue, snakelike eyes little things which makes them hard to spot. They might even have retractable fangs like a venomous snake.
