I've been playing d&d for decades, I recently found this site and like it a lot. I've never played 5th edition rules, I have a multitude of 2ND edition books. I have been working on a character that I'm finishing and looking for advice to get him into a campaign. Any info on how the site works as far as gaming would be really appreciated. I'm working off a mobile device cause my computer is dead. Thanks everyone!
To answer your question with regards to the D&D Beyond site, it's generally pretty easy to scrounge up a group of players down in the "Looking for Players and Groups" forum below here. Lots of people tend to gather there looking for online and face-to-face groups, get organized, and then wander off to play IRL or over a chat/video program like Discord or Skype. Others take their online groups over to a Virtual Table Top site like Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds (mentioned above). Still others do play-by-post games here on the D&D Beyond forums in the Play-By-Post section. Those are a little harder to get into as opening are few and games tend to fill up fast.

If you want to play online in real time (versus by post), have you tried Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds?
