That would be awesome if you purchased the LMoP package and it included the pre-gen characters for you, shareable to other accounts via the master tier subscription.
Yeah, that would be incredible. Failing that, I'd settle for step-by-step instructions to recreate them. It's not immediately clear (to a noob like me at least) what the sources of the different proficiencies are, for example.
I think if you have the character sheet in front of you its pretty quick to just start building the character and find the answers to what you put in the builder right there on the page. I don't remember those as being overwhelming loaded. Since they were made off the basic rules it seems like you could rebuild them on a free account not needing any of the other books here on DnDB. I think if you try it you'll find its easier than you think.
What makes you think I didn’t try it? I didn’t find it obvious at all, and I’m sure it would be completely overwhelming for many new players. Why don’t you try it yourself and get back to me? Try the rogue, for example, and try to put yourself in the shoes of a completely new player trying to figure out where the different proficiencies, etc. are supposed to come from.

One golden rule (that apparently people failed to point out to you) is that the Background skill proficiencies give you the chance to take any other skill if you already have the ones suggested coming from you race or class choices.
Practical example: Rogue -> Stealth can come from either the class choices or the background, if you chose it in the class, you will be able to chose any other skill come the background part.
That should hopefully make the process a bit easier, but I agree that adding a "Premade" section to the character builder, and put there at least the free ones that can be found in the D&D official website, for people to choose from and add to their own characters should they wish it would be useful.

It definitely would be a nice, beginner-friendly bonus if the Starter Set pregens came with the purchase, I agree. It was one of the nice features of the physical box - having simple ready-to-play characters that you could just hand to a new player. DDB doesn't support giving a character to another user at this point, but I believe that they've said they want to implement that in the future. Perhaps building the Starter characters and adding the, to the purchase could be added once that's possible.
As to building characters, you are correct. The process is a bit clunky, especially if you are completely new to the game, and not as simple as you might hope. The builder walks you through the steps as outlined in the Players Handbook, which to many (me included) seems out of order and counter-intuitive at times. It does take some practice and trial and error, so keep playing around with it, and ask specific questions when you get stuck.
Edit. Lol. That's a plus one to Mehetmet. I bought LMoP and I was disappointed that the Starter Set characters were not in DnDB. I kind of assumed they would be.
I agree, that would be great. Until that happens, however, would it be helpful for any of us more experienced ones to dissect the pregens and figure out the steps needed to recreate them?
For example, with the Rogue. It looks like:
Race: Lightfoot halfling
Class: Rogue
Class proficiencies: Acrobatics, Investigation, Performance, Stealth*
Expertise: Thieves Tools and Stealth.
Ability Scores: Str 8, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 13, Wis 10, Cha 15
Background: Criminal/Spy
Background skill proficiency: Deception will already be there, so then select Sleight of Hand*
Background gaming set proficiency: Playing card set
Background tool proficiency: Carpenter's Tools
Personality Traits: select the appropriate ones
Starting Equipment: Choose Equipment
Select shortsword, then shortbow with 20 arrows.
Select burglar's pack (and throw away your string and ball bearings?? I had to guess here)
I think that should do it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :)
* With the skills, technically, you could get Stealth from the background and select Sleight of Hand for class, but since DDB has you selecting your Expertise before your background, I just swapped them so that you don't have to go back and forth.
Would stuff like that help? Although, I agree, having the pregens created would be awesome! Probably biggest issue is getting the sharing of PCs enabled since creating them would be really fast. But you would need code to handle sharing the PCs between users.

KenMarable,
I think that's very informative! I was not even sure that could be done. Like, I thought the Starter Set characters might cheat the rules somehow. Even just knowing that it could be done is great! Thanks!
If someone wants to reverse engineer the wizard and the cleric, I could use it. I just Googled very quickly, but I did not see this.
BTW, I am a brand new player and DM. I thought it would be a great way to keep connected with some if by cousins while I travel a ton. I have watched probably 60% of Critical Role over about a year. We all had our very first session Thurs. night on roll20. Because the Roll20 char. sheets were a bit confusing, I told the players the players to just use the PDF printouts, and we rolled dice manually online.
Ability Scores: Str 14, Dex 8, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 12
Background: Soldier
Background skill proficiency: It should preselect Athletics, Intimidation, Vehicles (Land)
Background gaming set proficiency: Playing card set
Background tool proficiency: Carpenter's Tools
Personality Traits: select the appropriate ones
Starting Equipment: Choose Equipment
Select Warhammer, Chainmail, Simple Weapon (Handaxe), Explorer's Pack, Shield and Holy Symbol, Dagger, Deck of Cards
The pregen character actually gets two handaxes, but I don't see how to achieve this by default. When you get to level 4 take the Ability Score Increase (ASI) and increase Wisdom by 2 points to 18.
*The pregen wizard starts with a shortsword, but this is not an option by default so I put the quarterstaff in instead which is technically slightly better.
When you get to level 2 take the Evocation School, and at level 4 take the ASI to increase your Intelligence to 18.
Ability Scores: Str 15, Dex 8, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 13
Background: Noble
Background skill proficiency: It should preselect History, Persuasion
Background tool proficiency: Playing Card set
Background Languages: Dwarvish
Personality Traits: select the appropriate ones
Starting Equipment: Choose Equipment
Select: Chain Mail, Greataxe, Two Handaxes*, Explorer's pack
*Once again the starting equipment is not 100% in the default options, in this case the fighter throws away their shield and takes two handaxes instead of 3 javelins. These issues can be fixed if you manually add the equipment.
Once you get to level 3 take the Champion archetype, and at level 4 use the ASI to increase strength to 18.
Ability Scores: Str 13, Dex 15, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8
Background: Folk Hero
Background skill proficiency: It should preselect Animal Handling, Survival, Vehicles (Land)
Background tool proficiency: Carpenter's tools
Personality Traits: select the appropriate ones
Starting Equipment: Choose Equipment
Select: Leather Armour, longbow and 20 arrows, Greatsword, Explorer's pack
The fighter should also get another martial weapon or a shield which is not included in the pregen sheet. As with the noble fighter at level 3 you should take the Champion archetype, but at level 4 increase Dexterity to 18 instead.
Thanks so much to those of you who took the time to reverse engineer these LMoP characters! I’ve had to do that with two original characters my kids had made for them by somebody else. It was a quite educational process for a new DM . . . but I’ve got tons to do to prep for our second session and wasn’t looking forward to doing it for the rest of our players who chose the pregens. 😀
Is there any quick way to get the Starter Set characters into the Character Builder?
That would be awesome if you purchased the LMoP package and it included the pre-gen characters for you, shareable to other accounts via the master tier subscription.
How do you get a one-armed goblin out of a tree?
Wave!
Yeah, that would be incredible. Failing that, I'd settle for step-by-step instructions to recreate them. It's not immediately clear (to a noob like me at least) what the sources of the different proficiencies are, for example.
The selected Background will give a skill or two and the rest are from Class
As far as I can remember all of the LMoP pre-gens were made with the Standard Array for Ability Scores as well.
Yes, I understand they are standard characters. How to build them is not so obvious though, at least not to me.

To make the pregen Cleric:
The pregen character actually gets two handaxes, but I don't see how to achieve this by default. When you get to level 4 take the Ability Score Increase (ASI) and increase Wisdom by 2 points to 18.
To make the pregen Wizard:
*The pregen wizard starts with a shortsword, but this is not an option by default so I put the quarterstaff in instead which is technically slightly better.
When you get to level 2 take the Evocation School, and at level 4 take the ASI to increase your Intelligence to 18.
To make the pregen noble Fighter:
*Once again the starting equipment is not 100% in the default options, in this case the fighter throws away their shield and takes two handaxes instead of 3 javelins. These issues can be fixed if you manually add the equipment.
Once you get to level 3 take the Champion archetype, and at level 4 use the ASI to increase strength to 18.
To make the folk hero Fighter:
The fighter should also get another martial weapon or a shield which is not included in the pregen sheet. As with the noble fighter at level 3 you should take the Champion archetype, but at level 4 increase Dexterity to 18 instead.
This is great! Thank you!

Seems like a great idea. Not sure why this isn't a feature.
I read on here somewhere that it will be added eventually.
